Genuine question: why is there not more of a movement to get rid of Trump in the US? Why is it not possible to impeach him? Will there be mass protest at any point? #Trump #IranWar

@pvonhellermannn

a descriptive answer, not an endorsement: a lot of people disapprove of this war but "starting wars" is "just something the US does" and i don't see that alone as tipping the scales for him, tho i believe fallout will mount

there have been mass protests. mass civil disobedience is more elusive. IMO a lot of people (def congress, who are bought & paid for) are waiting for midterms, without confronting that the "normal" political system can't unwind this, it delivered this

@inquiline thank you! All this makes a lot of sense. And apologies for completely missing the protests!

@pvonhellermannn

sorry, i may have been unclear: there have been big protests against his policies and his presidency; the ones against the war per se have been smaller. but there is going to be another mass protest next wknd and it will include antiwar

the problem is really what/whether the big one-day protests are building towards. i think they're important in some ways and ambivalent in others. but i think this one will be the biggest yet, too--people are VERY mad about ICE, Iran, Epstein

@pvonhellermannn

also there are members of the House trying to impeach him:

another major issue is the mainstream commercial media is not doing a good job (or: it's doing the job it's supposed to do but it doesn't help us)

On December 11, 2025, 140 members of the US House of Representatives voted to advance Congressman Al Green’s articles of impeachment against President Trump.

@pvonhellermannn

i'd actually put odds at "low but greater than zero that something tips" that the House gets a majority vote on impeaching. the problems then become the Senate; and if it somehow proceeded from there, then Pres JD Vance. it's terrible!
