@hardpenguin13 tbh that's way simpler than I expected! The wait a day is pretty annoying though.

Those feel like actual security measures, not spying, for once.

@mdiluz the binary toggle that is in place right now is already too much if you ask me
@hardpenguin13 For you, yeah, but think of the average person and how they barely know how to computer :D
@hardpenguin13 it's a one step process. You do it once and you can side load apps forever after.
Seems acceptable to me.

@SamLeLuxo @hardpenguin13 Until it becomes 2 steps. Then none, because it is no longer an option.

I don't want a generic computing device, like a smartphone, that doesn't do what I, the owner, tell it to do.

@RandySimons @SamLeLuxo @hardpenguin13 That's never really been Android though. It's always hidden parts of your filesyatem from you. If you can 'jailbreak' or 'root' it, then it's not really yours in the first place.
@RandySimons @hardpenguin13 An OS is always making choices about its behaviour.
Even Linux ! That's why there are so many distros.
Here, Android (Google version) is trying to protect people from being scammed like it seems it happens often with heavy consequences for their lives.
And so, as in real life with politics, security is a balance to make.
Personally, this process looks acceptable to me if it can protect, for example, my parents from hackers.
I will perform this process once & for all.
@SamLeLuxo @hardpenguin13 I believe that "protecting the user" is more of a side effect. I.e. an excuse for the real reason: more control over the platform.

@hardpenguin13 bloody hell. Next step is promising Google my first born I guess.

I am heavily wondering why they are locking down their ecosystem. A fortune is probably at stake in Android.

@hardpenguin13 I was with them until they said โ€œwait one dayโ€ and then I was too angry to continue.
@hardpenguin13 This is some shit that Apple and Microsoft would have been sued to Oblivion for 15 years ago.
@hardpenguin13 let it go! Let google will kill android.
Maybe android developper community will turn to linux phones ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž
@hardpenguin13 symbian was killed like this: nokia did all the "security" things to ban modders and codders, so they went to android, which at the time was pure freedom.

@hardpenguin13 @Viss This smells like malicious compliance.
