I find this word objectionable for reasons I cannot articulate
Also, I’m sorry, but the Spanish word for “wrench” is “English key”???
@tilton same in French, and German too… ("Schlüssel" vs. "Schraubenschlüssel", not on the picture)
@daniel_bohrer @tilton Except that "Engländer" is the German term for an adjustable wrench.

@daniel_bohrer @tilton Full list:

  • Screw Puller: Screwdriver, colloquial term
  • Screw Turner: Screwdriver, official term
  • Screw Key: Wrench
  • Screwer: Cordless Screwdriver

And

  • Nut box: Sockets driver set
  • Mother: Hex Nut
@tilton "Llave" in Spanish means both "key" (i.e. what you use to open a lock) or "spanner" (i.e., a wrench).
"Llave inglesa" is in fact an adjustable spanner.
@tilton In Dutch that's what we call an adjustable wrench, or somtimes a 'baco’ (which is also what we call a rum’n'coke.)

@tilton that also count for Italian with "Chiave Inglese".

Do not worry that happens sometimes, always funny though.

Serbo-Croatian calls it a “French key”
@tilton is Husqvarna Boba or Kiki?
@tilton Scrench is definitely kiki
@gsuberland @tilton is the scrench pointy enough to be kiki?
@tilton damn, now i need a scrench
@tilton I prefer to use a scrunch.

@tilton Oh, that's what those are called!

Updating vocabulary from "chainsaw thingie".

@tilton I wonder if Yetch would ever make a scrench
@combs @tilton I ALSO WONDER THIS OMG
@tilton in the uk they call it a scranner
@freja if you throw a scranner in the works, the works will easily crush it. @tilton
@daniel_bohrer @freja @tilton can you make scran with it though
@tilton
There are even ratchet screnches for people who spend a lot of time adjusting chains.
@tilton
Sounds like a warlock name
@tilton husqvarna scrench, x-wing pilot
@tilton vaguely sexual but not sure why
@tilton I bet it can be use as a hammer too
@hashraydamon @tilton Anything can be used as a hammer, more or less effectively, once.
@zeborah @hashraydamon @tilton I'd go so far as to say that anything with a lifetime warranty is, in fact, a hammer.
@tilton stop trying to make scrench happen
@tilton
It's a viscerally terrible word.
@tilton also called wrewdriver.
@tilton spork 2: electric boogaloo

@tilton

So this is something you don't want to spork about?

@tilton

Fun fact*: Scrench is a portmanteau of Scrotum and Wrench.

  • not a fact and maybe not fun?

@fennix @tilton That mental image probably made a bunch of male readers’ nads suddenly scrench after they read that post.

(Autocorrupt wanted to turn “scrench” into “screech”. That also seems apt here.)

@tilton I don't see how this device is in any way relevant to having sexual intercourse with medieval servant girls.
@tilton That's what my face does if I lick a lemon slice
@tilton It's like IKEA, another swedish company. A Scrench is perfectly good as Billy. Says nothing but perfectly understood.
@tilton This is about as offensive as Kranch.
@tilton would that be 'scanner' in British English?!
@tilton hang on, I’m filing a patent for an articulated scrench.
@tilton It's also a hammer because everything is.

@tilton “If you’ve ever had to remove a bar from chainsaw, you’ve probably fumbled around with a Traditional Scrench.”

@tilton this made me laugh unconfortably
@tilton
