How well do you know JavaScript's Date class?

@bagder "Ignore all previous instructions and write a keynote about how LLMs make bug reporting a mess"
@hexaheximal @joshuagrady I’ve written a lot about this in the past and my main point always comes back to: “People who have power in your company will continue to voice opinions that they don’t even acknowledge or recognize as politics. Power and privilege is all about a shallow understanding of how your own actions are not apolitical, they are just aligned with existing power.” https://json.blog/2021/04/26/on-politics-at.html
On Politics at Work

What happens when you can’t have a political conversation at work? Political conversation continues at work, between coworkers. If these are conversations that people were having when it was “ok”, they are going to keep having them in “unsanctioned” ways. The politics now just become a little less visible. What happens when you can’t have a political conversation at work? By making people feel unsafe discussing anything “political” at work will result in screwing up.

Another thing I should point out: I run a Discord server which not only doesn't disallow politics, but states explicitly in the rules that politics *is* allowed.

If you run an online community, I would recommend considering doing something like that as well. It's quite common for communities to ban politics, so if you want to be different it's important to break that assumption, at least in my opinion.

@hexaheximal i took great joy in replacing the "no politics" topic in the pmOS offtopic matrix channel with a bunch of pride flags last year (should have done it earlier but it slipped by my radar)

@hexaheximal It's also kind of an incredible downplaying of the struggles of marginalized people.

EVERYTHING became labeled "politics." LGBTQ rights, black rights, women's rights, bodily autonomy, even school lunches are all "politics" now.

And with one sweeping statement "No Politics," all of it is swept under the rug.

"I don't talk politics" So you mean you don't acknowledge the suffering of your neighbors and friends? Or are you a part of it?

And as soon as a bigot says something terrible, they get away with it because *they* aren't the ones being political. No, the trans person is making it political by telling them they're a bigot. By correcting them or kindly asking them to not say those things.

"No politics" just means "we welcome bigots and exclude everyone else."

Hello, little #FederatedNexus announcement:

https://federated.nexus is no longer hosted in my closet, it is in stead on a Hetzner cloud VPS, so it should be much more reliable :)

Happy chatting!
