Downtown at the lab because of lost contact with a device. At least the nearby parking is free at this hour.
Went to take a look at the weather forecast and weather.gc.ca didn't load in a tab. Thought my browser locked up. Tried another browser: same nothing. Finally checked a down-detection page and yup. Was down.
Then 10 seconds later the first browser renders the page. All in the timing!

@danmccullough Bear wife: I've seen reports that feeders are being taken down. Time to get a last snack.

Bear husband: OK, we'll do it on Monday.

Bear wife: That's EXACTLY what you said last year. And when did the feeder get taken down?

Bear husband: Errr... Monday?

Bear wife: No, it was Sunday. We barely had time to get our snack.

Bear husband: OK fine, I'll go on Saturday.

Bear wife: Just don't be late.

As expected, a couple of hot spots - each under a power MOSFET (this is my lack of surprise). Both TO251 F630 got toasty enough to soften the solder on their drains. When I have ore time I'll poke at more to see if any passives are involved. Pretty sure I already have the parts to repair the thing.
Part of today's adventure was buying a 12VDC ->120VAC inverter to replace a failed device at the lab. Just a wee 75W unit from Canadian Tire. As expected, the test powered right up with it installed and I was off to other errands. Got the failed unit opened on my bench at home and saw nothing dramatic on the top side of the board. They do use a lot of hot glue to stabilize the PCB so a good dousing with isopropanol is needed to soften that to get the board out and check the underside.
Look at this baby beaver and feel better briefly

I'm often reminded of this, now 100 years old:

"Seven Social Sins is a list by Frederic Donaldson that Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi published in his weekly newspaper Young India on 22 October 1925. Later he gave this same list written on a piece of paper to his grandson, Arun Gandhi, on their final day together shortly before his assassination.

Gandhi listed the sins as:

Wealth without work.
Pleasure without conscience.
Knowledge without character.
Commerce without morality.
Science without humanity.
Religion without sacrifice.
Politics without principle."
