A coalition of 127 civil society groups and trade unions is pushing back on the European Commission’s reported changes to laws protecting citizens' data privacy and regulating how artificial intelligence can harness personal information.
@GossiTheDog We seem to be attempting to speedrun the point where it honestly doesn't matter if 'AI' does anything at all, thanks to the amount of impunity you get if you claim that it's super important that you build it before someone else does.
Seriously, though, whoever looked at the teetering pile of copyright infringement and scraping to the point of DDoS and was like "yeah, that looks privacy-compatible" will deserve their spot in one of the special hells.
It's as if "democratically elected" governments are more under corporate control than expressing "the will of the people".
Are periodic elections of professional politicians who need a lot of money to get elected, and are free to go back on their campaign "promises" once elected, by people subject to constant persuasion by corporate media, not the guarantee of democracy we have been told they are?
This cannot be allowed to happen. I don't know how exactly, but we will stop this.
@yhancik @GossiTheDog ah. I did not expect that kind of usage. Yeah in that case you have a good point.
Then again, makes me wonder why they suddenly bit the bullet on this one.
@keremanjaro @GossiTheDog they're not known to consistently offer resistance to lobbying. It's a wonder GDPR actually happened.
And we know there definitely is lobbying from the tech industry on easing EU regulations 👇
If we’re lucky, the bubble will burst before this passes and no one will want to be seen as making concessions to the people who broke the world’s economy.
EU has sold out to the fascists and billionaires now as well. There is no one else on the side of good anymore ☹️
@GossiTheDog Seems like even if/when the bubble pops, AI will have expanded tech's control in ways that will have made the grift fully worth it.
They've successfully scrubbed out consent, privacy, and the notion of "trojan horses" to such an extent that it will take ages to claw back any semblence of the individual as a person.
@GossiTheDog #MarketingisNOTalegitimateInterest need I say more besides
#BanOnlineAdvertizing
out spite. Make them go back to print media.
yes I see the data hunger of LLMs rooted in the advertisement mafia.
@GossiTheDog I called this before Trump was elected, that they're going to double down on getting rid of regulation and granting US tech giants free access to EU data. They're just going to get more hawkish on this and blackmail with NATO participation and security, if EU doesn't comply to their wants.
Finland is already planning to move election data to AWS. I want to get off this ride.
Well that didn't take long.
The sound you hear won't be champagne corks. So...what do you plan to wear for the next, worldwide #GreatDePrAIssion ?
Are they out of their mind?
"Draft changes would create new exceptions for AI companies that would allow them to legally process special categories of data (like a person’s religious or political beliefs, ethnicity or health data) to train and operate their tech. The Commission is also planning to reframe the definition of such special category data, which are afforded extra protections under the privacy rules. "
the bribed have realised the bubble is close to bursting and want their cash bags before it does.
