Elric. Geek. Software engineer (for now?). Unaugmented human being. Swears like a sailor. Loves tea. Somewhere on the spectrum. Which spectrum? Probably most of them. Remembers the internet when it was still a force for good.

Elric's Melniboné was a waning empire ruled by an amoral indolent hedonist class who let slaves tend to their every whim.. That's beginning to sound familiar.

Suffering from AI-fatigue-by-proxy.
My data is constantly being stolen/mined to train LLMs and to serve ads. But Teams can't fucking remember that I don't want to use their god awful autocorrect garbage. It's one boolean. Store it already.

Was working on a blog post about the consequences of AI on development teams. As I've been reading and writing, I've basically concluded that there's no point in writing it. Those are just 1st order consequences. Far more troubling will be the 2nd and 3rd order consequences on society at large. Maybe I should write about those, but they pretty much fill me with dread.

Elric's Melniboné was a waning empire ruled by an amoral indolent hedonist class who let slaves tend to their every whim.. Yeah.

This never ending stream of AI garbage is making me want to organize some old school coding workshops and book clubs. Like with physical people and hand crafted code.

I didn't have Luddism on my bucket list, but I'll happily go that way if it means keeping my sanity (for whatever that was ever worth).

Apparently bankers and the IMF are suddenly scared of Mythos. Not a peep out of them when Big AI started stealing everyone's data or when it started to threaten jobs. But suddenly bank security is at risk?

Get real. Maybe Mythos will get them to finally patch their crumbling crap and efforts at security theatre.

I've been using LibreOffice/OpenOffice since the early 2000s, and after 20 plus years I still hate the arcane clicking that is required for editing a chart.

I've donated to them in the past, but recent drama isn't encouraging.

What am I talking about? Ringspace is a proposed protocol for generating communities of human trust on an internet gone mad.
