AI is an instrument of power.

My fellow ladies, check this asshole out

"Mansplaining Audacity": President of Signal Watches in Bemusement as Random Man Explains Her Company's AI Strategy to Her

A man on Bluesky attempted to explain the AI policies of Signal to the company's president, a baffling instance of mansplaining.

In 2016 a landmark study by scholars at the DC think tank Physicians for Social Responsibility reported that since 1990, Western Wars have killed more than 4 MILLION Muslim civilians.

FOUR MILLION.

As you see war mongers beat war drums for Iran, please know that we've been down this road before. It leads to nothing but death, destruction, and record profits for defense contractors. This isn't justice, it's tyranny.

@Em0nM4stodon as of recently companies embracing AI and being a part of genocidal tech like nimbus or tampering like grok. All of this I saw a mile away and left those platforms that supported these things
@Em0nM4stodon Personally: For most Big Tech companies, my line is behind me. I have no presence on Meta's platforms, I never use Amazon anymore, I deleted my Github presence, I don't have an account with OpenAI or Anthropic, and I avoid Google when possible (which isn't always the case, unfortunately). At the moment I'm actively trying to avoid American tech services in general, for a variety of reasons.
@Em0nM4stodon when I heard alternative facts I marched at a science positive protest in Madison. From there I protested all around Milwaukee. Reality is where I drew the line. I discovered morality. I discovered class solidarity.

Where is the line for you?

At which point are you saying "that's enough! I have to stand up against this!" and actually go to a protest against this administration, boycott this company, or delete a social media account?

Where is the line for you to take action?

You don't have to answer here, but you should have an answer to this for yourself.

This week, a woman was wrongly accused of shoplifting and asked to leave 2 UK retail stores after being flagged by facial recognition technology (FRT).

This is yet another example of the use of FRT in retail spaces having serious consequences on people’s lives.
