Apple Care One is a nightmare. I haven’t heard anybody that has had a smooth experience and nobody at Apple appears to know what is covered nor how to file replacement claims.

I had two reps tell me my Magic Keyboard wasn’t covered as part of my iPad’s coverage.

That’s wrong as per Apple’s own legalese.

Eventually found a “senior support advisor” that is now helping but that’s after 4 transfers and 40 minutes on hold.

Embarrassing.

Furthermore, though Apple is now helping me get the device replaced, they first have to “register” it to my account as a sub-device. Why is this not done automatically? No idea. I asked if users can input their “covered accessories” manually somehow. They cannot.

Only once it is broken must they add it to the coverage policy so they can start an RMA. Absurdly stupid.

Here’s where we now stand: my iPad Magic Keyboard is now “registered” for coverage under my iPad Pro and “within 24 hours,” I should be able to manually input the keyboard’s serial number for service options.

It’s time to stop giving Apple a pass on this stuff. I know a lot of deluded fans think “well it’s worse than it used to be but it’s still better than the competition.” Except for it’s not. (1/2)

Last year, Dell sent out an ON-SITE TECH to help a family member SAME DAY to fix a keyboard issue on a… get this… $700 laptop. (2/2)
@snazzyq dell support is no joke.
@snazzyq this is THE reason Dell has long been a staple in business

@snazzyq I pay Microsoft $8 a month for M365. The one time I had an issue they called me back from the US in 20 minutes and talked to me directly.

$8 a month for two E1 licenses!

@snazzyq Apple Care+ has screwed up several family devices (kid's iPads) to where I'm not sure they're covered. They show as added in my subscription bundle, but on the physical device is prompted to sign up for Apple Care.

It's bad

@stephenrobles @snazzyq are they on separate Apple IDs? I’ve only used it on my devices so far. But I’ve heard about the nightmare from others.
LMAO how is this real??
@snazzyq from the team that brought you this
@snazzyq Congratulations on insuring your iPhone 6.
@snazzyq Better hurry with the replacement before the next job threatens you with removing the keyboard from the plan again in case you don’t sign in within 24hrs…
@snazzyq they are trying so hard to make sure nobody can get one over on them that they are ruining the experience for everybody.
@paul It’s shocking how bad their support has gotten even over the past year with all this new automated LLM garbage via chat and deterring you from speaking to a person at all costs.
@snazzyq @paul Yes, that is the real embarrassment — how poor Apple phone support has gotten. It is the rare occurrence now when I feel like I’m on the phone with a “genius.”
@snazzyq @siracusa If you have an Apple Pencil as well, and it needs service, you’ll have to unregister the keyboard and then register the pencil. When it comes to covered accessories, there can be only one.
@snazzyq Did it stop working or did it just peel apart? Because if the latter, after you go through all of this work they will tell you it’s cosmetic and not covered under AppleCare.
@snazzyq I may be in the minority here, but I managed to transfer my M2 MacBook Air, M4 IPad Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro without any issues. Haven’t needed to file any claims yet though.
@Kerry Oh, yeah. Swapping devices is trivial. That ain’t the issue haha

@snazzyq piece of shit company: over priced bullshit - and Tim Cook is a cuck

#FuckApple

@snazzyq Uh oh. This may not bode well for me, then.

I just moved my new phone, iPad, and Beats to an Apple Care One account since that was going to be cheaper than getting a service for each.

@snazzyq I tried to get a Japan purchased but US used iPad Pro registered on ACO, but it took two escalations to tell me that they actually can only register US region devices. Also if I damage a US device outside the US and the foreign store replaces it with a foreign country device, then ACO can no longer be used. Just what??
@snazzyq Definitely send a letter of complaint to whoever is responsible for Customer Service at Apple otherwise this will continue.
They registered my keyboard and initiated an express replacement during the same phone call. I would insist instead of waiting a day.
@snazzyq @siracusa I apologize, I know this isn’t what you want to hear. I had a perfect experience with AppleCare One. I put three devices (iPhone, watch, and Vision Pro) and then realized the Vision Pro was covered until 02/26! I took it out of AppleCare One and a few days later I received a refund for AppleCare (the one until 02/26) and they were uncovered. I added them again, no problem. Apple did many transactions because of my mistake. But it all work flawlessly and never had a problem.
@aoctavio @siracusa I wouldn’t really consider that your mistake, rather, a very poorly communicated system you were unable to intuitively navigate.

@snazzyq @siracusa

The "One" in Apple Care One is actually a middle finger.

@snazzyq I’m already anti-extended warranty, but one of the underestimated costs is your time and effort and hassle.
Traditionally with AppleCare it was virtually frictionless, but that’s definitely not the case anymore, not if you value your time and sanity.
@snazzyq @siracusa My wife’s iPhone now won’t let her join in it Family settings. Of all people that need to have their phone covered, it’s my wife that can’t.
@snazzyq
Then there's that whole appeasing Nazis thing.

@snazzyq oh no, I'm an Apple One snowflake 😬, it worked great for me *knocks on wood*, it even allowed me to add coverage for a used device I got that wasn't eligible previously and still not pay more than I was before.

Only issue was when I upgraded to the iPhone 17, all my devices had a badge to add coverage on my old 14 because after "swapping" devices. I luckily hadn't traded it in yet and signed in, declined coverage on it, and all was well.

@snazzyq @siracusa ask your home insurance company if they cover these devices . And if so, don’t pay apple :-)
@snazzyq oh wow! Mine is broken and I had no idea it was covered! Thank you! Now to go down your same journey...
