(I'm fine, just a few minor injuries. I'm happy to be alive because I hit the deck really hard with my head.)

Ich bin seit ich 16 war nicht mehr von einem Auto mitgenommen worden, und es war langsam beim Einbiegen auf einen Parkplatz, aber ich war trotzdem eine Weile noch ein bisschen durch den Wind.

Millions of Dutch kids and parents think this is ridiculous.
Perhaps you meant “When you are riding at high speed going downhill on a Mountain or Racing bike, you wear a helmet.”?
When I race, I wear a helmet. When I’m leasurely bringing my kid to school (in the Netherlands!!) we don’t.
Context matters
