@Natasha_Jay The great Cecil Adams, in his Straight Dope column, once offered an aside on an entirely different topic, saying (paraphrase) "I know this the same way I know the toilet paper goes over the roll towards you. Don't ask me how I know. I just know."
Words to live by.
Ah, thank you for this.
But dare I provoke yet another debate here on the 'correct' way to set the roll.....
๐
but sharing a spongestick was more fun and style!
Rear view was patented in 1912. So, it's very likely a front view.
So, the intention of these evil people placing toilet rolls in the wrong direction is to avoid patent fees?! ๐ง
So you're a member of the Society of the Academy of Toilet Paper Science? Where can I apply for that, too?
You just flushed my entire life so far. Now I'm woke.
Never didโฆ
Thanks for the info, I had really forgotten how to mount a toilet roll.
Been washing my ass for about 25 years now.
More hygienic and saves a lot of money over time.
I watched in amusement during the pandemic when people were literally fighting over packets of toilet rolls.
Some stores even rationed sales to one pack per customer. Crazy.
Add in people who have toddlers visiting for the holidays as we found out one Thanksgiving.
I have never heard anyone tell me why this is the correct way. What are the benefits? Doing it the other way means it is a lot harder to have the roll unravel.
Intended is not the same as correct. This is just an appeal to authority. I have NEVER heard a single reason why this is the correct way to do this. What benefit is there?
@utf_7 @csstrowbridge @Natasha_Jay Also if there's a toddler in house, it's better to keep it other way to avoid the whole roll being emptied to the floor.
But otherwise I always fix these whenever I spot a paper going against the wall.
@Natasha_Jay
I never had any doubt. When I was a child my parents had a toilet roll holder which would automatically grip the roll so you could easily tear it off with one hand.
The gripping mechanism only worked the right way around, so I've always been used to the right way being the only way.
