Finally somebody said it better 😅🤣
@nixCraft First, why after retirement, seriouly. Secondly, linkedin is just awefull, lot of people just trying to justify their job by contacting you in the only goal to try to find someone to hire. And now with AI, I'm sure it's just Ai sending shit. Yes still their, but desactivate about everything, each time I log, I see why I don't log more often, just more and more garbage....

@mikeTesteLinuxQlub @nixCraft I can't up Klemmer, but yeah: LinkedIn _used_ to be useful - after the .com implosion it got me jobs super quick (stay friends with your headhunters). But now its just techbros and crypto influencers mutually masterbating about disrupting synergies or some bullshit. "Congrats to the BizSchizzle team on shipping 10M Splurgits! Looking forward to seeing you at TechWank 25!"

FFS.

@tezoatlipoca @nixCraft Came too late to be useful for me, and ure true by saying is now just techbros and crypto. Should destroy my account at that point.

@mikeTesteLinuxQlub @nixCraft "after retirement" was also the thing i cannot understand, like why? as if i want to get contacted by tons of recruiters a day.

or. or we build an addon to let recruiters talk to other recruiters, that sounds fun

@utf_7 @mikeTesteLinuxQlub @nixCraft Bit of context: after retiring from the army this guy started an online coffee selling business, he promotes it on LinkedIn via a steady stream of quite funny posts.
@jkb @utf_7 @nixCraft Strange idea to promote on linkedin 😆
@mikeTesteLinuxQlub @nixCraft even before retirement is useless. If linkedin is for recruiting, just create an account when you need it, with the right hype keywords it will be a few hours before a recruiter finds you. Afterwards you can delete it again.
@mikeTesteLinuxQlub You replied to someone who has made a living posting on Facebook...
@mikeTesteLinuxQlub (who also blocked me for calling out they support Facebook's racist platform by using it)
@nixCraft Aren't you a top Facebook poster? I mean, on there you're a brand and not an open source advocate. Same as here, it's engagement farming nonsense, but there you do it for Zuckerberg. Very open source.

@jenzi @nixCraft we'll say that everywhere is already convinced in the fediverse. Facebook and twitter are awful places, but also the ones that need the most advocates.

edit: at this point we can actually consider that all hope is lost with these users and just get right out.

@f4grx @nixCraft It's not advocacy, it's brand building and engagement farming. It's marketing, it's not advocacy. The platform is a place for people to post about hate crimes they want to commit, post slurs and otherwise hate their fellow man. It's not a discussion forum about the best software, it's nothing but racists left.
@jenzi @nixCraft very true. Yes.
@f4grx @nixCraft They blocked me because they need to protect their brand.

@nixCraft

I just recently told a colleague that there are mostly just two types of people on linked-in and every similar network. People who stalk former colleagues or employees in the hopes to see how bad they're doing and braggers who brag about how shitty they're to their colleagues or employees.

@nixCraft

And it seems such a waste of time
If that's what it's all about

If that's linking in,
then I'm linking out.

@nixCraft my words exactly, it’s just I’m not a retired CEO… yet :>
@nixCraft That's one reason I left LI totally almost a year ago. It has become so banal and Microsoft's moderation practises are appalling.

❝ you’re cosplaying a personality disorder and calling it leadership❞

🔥🔥🔥

this is gold.

i remember all those 1990s books about how “good” sociopaths make great CEOs. well this is the hellscape the world has created by empowering people whose whole identity is to hate other people.

@nixCraft

@blogdiva @nixCraft Is that why ChatGPT was so much better at their job than it was at mine?

We could save a lot more money by putting the c-suite out of work than by attacking the programmers.

@nixCraft just maybe you connect to weird people on LinkeIn?
@LeoBistmans @nixCraft LinkedIn puts posts with high engagement on your feed whether you're connected to the people or not, whether you're in the same industry or not, whether you're in the same country or not. That's part of why people post outlandish stories, because engagement gets them views and clicks. It's the YouTube algorithm problem on steroids.
@awmwrites @nixCraft just checked, none of that. Maybe the algorithm does not see me as a potential victim 🫣
@nixCraft i left that cesspool a long time ago, if someone wans to hire me , they will have to read my resume and cover letter.
@nixCraft
There are 1.5 things that LinkedIn can be useful for.
a) it’s a self-updating address book. I typically invite new business contact - customer or business partners - there
b) sometimes I look up new people in upcoming meetings.
Posts are total business bs. Some marketing people believe that advertising there works and say they have the numbers. I know that wouldn’t work on myself. I tend to ignore the activity feed.
LinkedIn might also be useful as a jobmarket. I haven’t had success there. What I’ve seen is:
1) job offerings that are not real but for marketing
2) 3rd party head hunters that try to match people with job offerings where I ask myself how in the world they think I would fit a position.

@iamlayer8 I've had success with the job market in the past but I checked recently and the job search doesn't even work any more. Filtering for specifically flagged attributes simply doesn't work.

If I have to manually scroll past 20 postings that I've clearly excluded for every posting that meets the bare minimum requirements I have, that's not fit for purpose.

@nixCraft Upon retirement, deleting LinkedIn was a pleasure. But not as good as deleting Slack. It feels like tumors have been removed from my brain.
@nixCraft This is true, but what's also true as I've found out is there are some really thoughtful & sincere people on LinkedIn trying desperately to go boldly against the grain. I've decided to join them in that fight, and in a perverse sort of way I'm having a lot of fun. 😅

@nixCraft LinkedIn, isn't that the website that lost my password and then kept silent about it for two years? 🤔

I seem to remember having left that one many years ago... and never missed it for a second. 🥳 🤭

@nixCraft "..A digital motor pool full of self-appointed visionaries doing donuts in the mud..." 😂 Perfectly description. I once saw someone, who bounces around my industry circles, title themselves a "Hyper Growth Executive" in their latest "I just got fired" post.
@nixCraft @thejikz ahhh Thought Leadership ™ at its finest
@nixCraft OMG. Absolute chef’s kiss of a post.
@nixCraft Boy do I want to repost this one on my LinkedIn profile…

@nixCraft "You're cosplaying a personality disorder and calling it leadership."

I can work this into so many conversations.

@nixCraft "Cosplaying a personality disorder and calling it leadership" is 100% dead bullseye on the money. Killshot.
@nixCraft I have a family member who says I should "be active on LinkedIn" and post AI slop. As it wouldn't damage my brand.

Yes LinkedIn is full of pro-AI Silicon Valley people, but those types will just use my Big Tech competitors without a doubt.
@nixCraft I dumped LinkedIn as soon as MS announced they were buying it. Reading this thread shows me that I did the right thing, for the right reasons. MS ruins everything it touches. When I retired I was no longer forced to use any MS products. That's been like Heaven.
@nixCraft This is also why I follow Aerial Resupply Coffee on LinkedIn.

@nixCraft

I could marry this man. 😆 🤣

@nixCraft oh that line! You are cosplaying a personality disorder and calling it leadership.

I wish I had written that!

@nixCraft Linkedin Lunatics! It's best to keep them contained in their own zoo out there.
@nixCraft I was once asked if I could be more active on LinkedIn by my closest manager. I replied that the day he sees that happening he should start looking for someone to replace me.
(we still have a very good relation despite, or because of, my disobedience 😊).
@nixCraft as someone with a personality disorder I usually hate insults based on them but "cosplaying a personality disorder" is good lol
Like I'm fully willing to acknowledge a lot of our stereotypical behaviors are harmful, so I can appreciate calling someone out for having those behaviors while implying they actually have no disorder or real reason to act like that

@nixCraft 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That's bloody brilliant!

I was on there for awhile and it's exactly as described.

@nixCraft
I still occasionally get people telling me I'd find more customers if I used LinkedIn... Then I'll say something about corporate social media and they'll tell me "but this is business"..... Yea, no.... So often "business" is an excuse to act like the biggest toddler with an excuse and LinkedIn is the poster child of this.
@nixCraft question: why don't you just copy and paste the screenshot's text into the alt text? It's better to have it all there instead of your summarised interpretation.

@nixCraft I was one of the first 1,000 users of LinkedIn. I deleted my 22 year old account a couple of years ago.

It's garbage. It's all garbage.

@nixCraft found the original on LinkedIn and reposted.
@nixCraft The next unnecessary platform to get rid of? It's a waste of time, but that's precisely what "lemmings" do 😆

@nixCraft Horacio Alger stories. All you need is “pluck” and the robber barons will make you one of them.

Or they’ll just crush you for spite.

Having a LinkedIn profile is dangerous. It can seriously damage your career, when your profile gets linked with something or someone less flattering than you'd like.

But hey if you're retired, then go wild!

@nixCraft he joined LinkedIn *after retirement*?

I thought normal people only used LinkedIn when they were looking for a job

@nixCraft this post must have gone viral on Linkedin, I'm sure
@nixCraft Linkedin is a giant Scientology convention.
@nixCraft I stop using the app when a former co-worker try using it to find out where iam working so he can steal my job
