ex-microsoft yet hates MS. privacy is important. big data ai sucks, i wasted ~10 years doing it & regret it deeply 😀.
@0xabad1dea Now we're making the same mistake with AI, but on a larger scale.

We need a solarpunk future. We need degrowth. We need to be truly net-zero and circular. We need enough for everyone, whether in the US or Uganda. We need more Main Street businesses, not VC-backed "AI" startups. We need universal healthcare and child care and more third places.

Communism failed but so did capitalism. And both led to authoritarianism, just with different leaders.
Hey @GrapheneOS, when will Pixel 10 support be ready, even in an alpha state?

I mean, I could use my spare Pixel 9, but still want the status.
this checks out lmao

Soooo... PayPal is banning Asahi Linux users. Hey, can you maybe not do that please?

https://gist.github.com/asahilina/31dd6bf3cde26a51e0fc1414e1abe730

Yes, they ban Linux users with a GPU name containing the string "Apple M1". Anything else works.

Edit: To be clear they're banning the platform from access, not individual accounts. This won't get your account banned.

Edit 2: Alternate workaround: Spoof a Mac OS / Safari user agent. As you'd expect, "Apple M1" is allowed then.

What's this? An astroturf campaign from Lyft? No thank you!

Introduction 276 is actually a very good bill and should pass.

I know full well writing 10,000 word articles on dead Sun tech from the 2000s is not a particularly profitable use of my time. This isn't going to draw scores of new readers to the @osnews Patreon and Ko-Fi. For profit, I should be making YouTube videos with fast transitions and annoying sound effects to stir up drama based on git discussions or lkml posts with my O face in the thumbnails.

But someone needs to show the world what we lost when Sun died and the industry enshittified. Tech has hit rock bottom, and I want to show everyone that yes, we can build something better.

We only have to look back at what we lost, instead of forward at what's left to destroy.

I was trying to set up GitLab in my #homelab and wondered why LDAP/AD didn't filter to a single group.

Apparently I was running "gitlab-ctl restart" instead of "gitlab-ctl reconfigure".
@gimulnautti @pluralistic Apple and Google are worse threats than Huawei ever will be.

Huawei doesn't control a major app store outside of China. Apple and Google do.

Pixel devices are no longer fully open devices, which was Google's main advantage over Huawei.

Even the EU age verification law is making the EU give into Trump.

We need the NRA of tech rights groups. Like @eff, but more political. In fact I'd love to start one.
@losttourist My dad once siad I should use AWS because of "quality".

In reality, no-name VPS hosts (including what I run for a living) are often more reliable.

I've in fact gotten off the corporate internet for the most part:

* I canned my Reddit account weeks ago, and Twitter a year ago
* I self-host personal and business email
* I use @nextcloud for cloud storage on a NAS

I just miss DSLReports. Telecom provider subreddits suck in comparison.
While no longer sold on Amazon (but still are on specialty resellers), tDCS devices are amazing.

I've become more social, spend less time snacking and online, spend less on impulse purchases, stim less, etc.
