No, I do not want to log into your site. No, I do not want notifications from you. No, I do not want to subscribe to your newsletter. No I do not want your cookies. No I do not want you to send me offers.

And when you wonder why I am taking my business elsewhere, this is why.

@randahl
I was just in a store where the clothes did'nt have price tags and I found an employee to ask where the prices were and she told me to download their app and scan the bar code of the item. Nope nopenopenope. I noped on out of there.
@BunRab Wow. Yeah I'd be out of there in a second 😬

@BunRab @randahl

🤦Yup, that's a nope. 😱

Yet *somebody* thought that was a good idea...

@BunRab @randahl

Next logical step is you ring it up yourself on your phone so no employees needed!

Not a store I'd shop in. . .

@FallsMom @randahl
I'd woory more that if I didn't buy it, the app would know every item I scanned but didn't buy, and start inundating me with messages that I really should buy the thing now!!!

@BunRab

Yikes, yes!

@BunRab

Also I wonder. . .if pricing will vary on who you are. Are you a repeat customer? Do they have data that shows you're well off?

@BunRab @FallsMom @randahl If it works like the rest of the web, it would be trying to get you to buy stuff you already bought

@BunRab

Wow, nooo 😱
Also: aaah guinea pigs and flutes 💖

@randahl

@BunRab No signs or tags .. AM GONE...
@BunRab @randahl I ate in a restaurant fairly recently that had a QR code to scan to see the menu on your phone. Trouble is my phone would not scan their QR code for some reason. They had no printed menus and did not know the web address that the QR code was supposed to send me. Technology fail.
@MichaelMcWilliams There was a conversation had prior to all that with no we don't need your help. My son/nephew knows the interwebs. @BunRab @randahl
@BunRab @randahl I still haven’t acquiesced to the grocery store loyalty cards. I enter my mother in laws phone number to get the discounts. I wonder if she wonders why she gets so many beer coupons.
@tsrams @randahl
🤣🤣 The other thing you can do is enter your area code and 837-5309; that phone number has been used for evrry area code in the US for almost every grocery store chain!

@BunRab @tsrams @randahl 867-5309, but yeah.

It was the first thing I thought of too, which is how you know I'm old.

@kentenmakto
My aging arthritic fingers is what I'm gonna blame fingers!

@BunRab @randahl

To be a fly on the wall during inventory...

@BunRab @randahl

#Unbelievable. Next, they only serve People onto 25, so you have to show your @ ID. For every #Shit they want you to install a f...... #App.

@BunRab @randahl it’s getting insane out there

@BunRab @randahl

Dynamic pricing.

That shit should be illegal.

@Uair
My first thought as well.
But hey, if their customers are stupid enough...

@BunRab @randahl

@BunRab @randahl I'm glad that this would be illegal in my country! (French law forces shops to display prices in a simple and legible way. They also mandate where required to indicate the price per unit (per liter or per kg usually)
@SamantazFox @BunRab @randahl I'd like a kg of white t-shirts, please. ;)
@SusannaH @BunRab @randahl I have reworded my toot to make it clearer. In essence, if a shop sells tee-shirts in 3-packs, the label should show a "price per unit". If another item is sold as a 600g box, it shows "price per kg" and so on.
@BunRab @randahl next step: They know who you are through cookies and make tailored prices for you, so you pay 50% more than the guy next to you.
@BunRab
Aw, come on, all they want is all your data
@randahl
@BunRab @raymondpert @randahl … depending on what brand and model of device you use, a custom price, just for you! 😵
@BunRab @randahl
And this scanning app have spy module attached ...
Thanks, NO!

@BunRab @randahl
I tried to get Internet for my home but the provider said i can't access the modem to change the settings from my home network, i have to download an app.

That's way too invasive on so many levels, so i cancelled the service request and I'm returning their dysfunctional modem.

@BunRab @randahl So they can charge differential prices; and increase all the prices from the laptop on the yacht without the tedium of asking actual people to do it.
@BunRab @randahl So you take the clothes to the cashier, ask them to tell you the price and then decide which ones to try. The remaining ones stay with the cashier to put back. Or so.
@waldi @randahl
Why would I do all that work to find out something that the store should have been telling me up front? And also, cashiers tend to have lines; especially in a store where that would be the only way to find out the price besides the app, there'd be a long line of annoyed people. Why shoukd I give any custom to a business that treats customers like that?
@randahl a scrub is a guy who can't get no love from me
@randahl Also, the opposite of "yes" is in fact "no", and not "maybe later". 😡

@randahl @skinnylatte With only a little tweaking…

No, I don’t want your offers
No, I don’t want to be notified
No, I don’t want to take your cookies
No, I don’t want to subscribe

No, I don’t want no scrub
A scrub is a site that won’t get no love from me
Spitting up alerts and trackers and data hijackers
Tryin to holla at me ♫

@randahl
Not to mention - turn off your ad blocker.
@AoaI and please allow pop-ups.

@randahl

And turn on scripts.
And THEN allow CloudGlare to determine if you're worthy to pass our sacred portal to the wonderful, golden fruits that are our products. For thou mayest think client is king, but thou wouldst be mistaken.

@AoaI

@randahl this is why I like small businesses.
@randahl But Randahl, our HR department has identified an incredible opportunity for you . . .
@randahl It’s a way to deliver dynamic pricing. The app will learn how much you are willing to pay, how much you need an item. Your cost will be different from everyone else’s costs.
@randahl
No, I do not want greed eggs and spam.
I do not want them in a box
I do not want them in Firefox
@randahl every day:
"do you have a store card?", "no", "do you want to sign up for one?", "no"
or
"phone number?", "I don't have one", "... erm ok"
or
"want your receipt printed or emailed?", "printed"
@randahl Please make a note of #allthethings why I won’t do business with this company.

Also don't ask me what I think of your website that I've only seen a few seconds of. No I don't want to talk to your support chat bot. And no location access either.

@randahl One AI agent I'd be ok with would be one to notice and close all those / reject cookies all before I can even see them. (as long as it is fully client-side) (maybe it exists?)

@randahl I wonder why do most if not all of the websites require users to log in with their email addresses and/or phone numbers? What was wrong in having a user ID not linked to the email address and/or phone number.

Oh I get it the harvesting..........

Never mind

@randahl Exactly How it is When We The People Try to Contact Congress ....Never is There A Genuine Reply ...No Personal Calls No Letters in the mail , Only Automated Hypocrisy.....America I Believed Was All About The People ....Now I Believe Congress is All About Upholding the Dollar Bill ....Attn Congress and Senate Y'all Feel Me?
@randahl For real, I'm pretty dang sure that all of this digital nagging turns away just as much business as it brings in, if not more. I don't have the data to back it up, for obvious reasons - but on the other hand, with +20 years of working in or adjacent to this field I've yet to see conclusive evidence (or any, in most cases) that it works.
@randahl Hello, I just replied back to introduce you to @godpod and to tell you about all the thing God posts about so you too can become a follower.
@randahl
And when I'm in a real shop, no I do not want to give you my email address so I can receive paperless receipts. And a tonne of spam, endless not very special offers on stuff I don't want and details of your membership card aka data harvesting scheme.
