Please do not use Facebook as your business website.
@michelestrider There's no back-click faster than the frantic gesture that comes when I think I'm going to a web site and it takes me to a Facebook page.

@Gustodon @michelestrider I have Facebook's domains in ublock - I never see elements that link to them, and if I somehow find a way there, I get a warning page first.

Consider doing something similar!

@michelestrider hear!

Absolutely hate being taken to a Facebook page to even look at basic info for a place.

@michelestrider addendum: if you use Facebook as your 'business website,' well, you won't be getting my business.
I'd literally rather have a site like _mine_ where it's just "we don't have an ecommerce site. Here's our phone number, address, and a contact form."
At least then I know it's actually *you*.
@michelestrider Please do not use Facebook at all!

@michelestrider

Right? Or tell me to see Instagram for details.

@michelestrider And when communicating with people, please do not expect everybody has Whatsapp.
@michelestrider or have an official X account.
@michelestrider You can use facebook and I'll go there and complain when you mess up, but if it's your website I won't give you a chance to give me something to complain about.
@michelestrider this needs to be tattooed onto people. forcibly, if necessary
@michelestrider pretty please. Otherwise I cannot see anything you put there
@michelestrider
And don't GoDaddy redirect your domain to your facebook page too. That doesn't count.
@DavBot Oh, that's crazy! No one should do that.

@michelestrider

I have encountered that soooo many times in my time spent as a web hosting tech. Its ridiculous.

@michelestrider Actually kind of a solid metric for businesses to avoid though, no?
@skoda Some businesses need a FB page to reach their target audience. But if it is your only website, you miss out on people who aren't on FB, as FB limits how much of your content someone can see without creating an account.
@skoda @michelestrider Yes! Same with a business on Geocities. It tells me they arenสผt serious.
@jackyan @michelestrider Geocities still exists?
@skoda @michelestrider Drawing an analogy. If you knew what Geocities was, then you get the idea.
@michelestrider could not agree more! Such a bad user experience.
@michelestrider Or Instagram!

@dnkboston @michelestrider

All UK higher education institutions: FB and X - decline of morality.

@linuxgnome You mean they all have a presence there? Same in the US. And that's where a lot of information is exclusively relayed.
@michelestrider
@michelestrider I have never understood why anyone does this.
@BruceMirken @michelestrider Me neither, not even in 2007โ€“10 when Facebook could pass for interesting. No serious business did this with Geocities, and the same rule applied to Facebook.
@michelestrider or have website.something and use yahoo/hotmail as your contact

@michelestrider Literally saw this yesterday. I was looking up a food truck I used to know and I found a page about them and it said visit this company's website so I clicked and it took me to their Facebook page.

Which didn't even have a menu, which is what I was looking for.

I had to hunt down pictures from regular folk who'd been there and taken pictures of the menu. Just idiocy.

@michelestrider
I donโ€™t have a Facebook account so itโ€™s an automatic fail for me. I canโ€™t see your page anyway.
@michelestrider agreed. I sure wish our local restaurants would not. I sure wish our town municipality would not. Sighs.

@michelestrider Yup - because it can be ripped away from you with zero notice, and because they don't actually provide any support, you can't get back on it again.

I had a business page... but it wasn't really a central part of the business. If I'd been dependent on it I would have been well and truly borked.

Basically - any service owned by a peculiar foreign oligarch is a serious risk.

@michelestrider oh shit you would not like living in Taiwan. Most businesses use it

@michelestrider speaking of which I need to make a website for my wife ๐Ÿ˜ญ
@michelestrider Yes FB is commercially *useless* unless you're a cafe, basically.
@michelestrider Please, do not use Facebook/Instagram/Meta at all.
@michelestrider @emd nor gmail.com or outlook.com as your business email.
@michelestrider "monkey paw curls* they are now all on Instagram instead
@michelestrider

That sentence was already perfect after five words.
๐Ÿ˜‰

@michelestrider
OK I won't.

But wouldn't it be better to ask people who at least have an account there? ;-)
