St Pat's in on the horizon, but what if I told you there'd be no Guinness without London Porters?

From classic recipes to cutting-edge modern beers, there's a range of porters to enjoy this March. Read on for more of my latest feature in the American:

So, it all makes sense. Ryan Atwood in the OC is actually Hyllus. Because his father is Kevin Sorbo, the greatest hero of all time.

Mind. Blown.

Can anyone suggest a good #email App for #ios now that Apple’s Mail has gone from being almost usable to totally shit?

I know, but gotta do the banking.

@cstross ?

If you are liking (and maybe even reading) my drinks features, it would be great if you boost/share/etc. Spread the word, spread the love!

My second feature and review for The American magazine highlighted Blackbook Winery, the most Transatlantic of English wineries!

"American, English, and Totally London: Blackbook Winery

If I told you that there’s a winery less than a mile from the US Embassy in London, run by an Amercian expat, making award-winning English wine, would you believe me?"

I've been quietly writing drinks features for the American Magazine for the last six months. Check out my profile and review of Nirvana Brewery for a look at an independent no/low option! Perfect for a more relaxed liver at the beginning of 2026.

There's this 2023 piece:

https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2023-11-03/los-angeles-public-transportation-metro-bus-train

which leads with this fairly positive review of LA Metro:

"I just spent a week riding Los Angeles buses and trains, along with 25 broadcast journalists from Germany, all of us in L.A. for a mid-career fellowship program. When I told my local contacts we planned to take public transit to dozens of meetings and events — three to four a day, from the Westside to downtown and beyond — they seemed shocked and offered dire warnings along the lines of “are you out of your mind?”

But their fears of lurking danger, little reliability and less comfort turned out to be wrong, albeit well intentioned.

We rode a big selection of Metro’s 120 bus and six train lines. With surprising ease. Safely. Happily. And on time,..."

Opinion: German travelers loved Los Angeles' Metro. Wait, what?

Twenty-five participants in a journalism fellowship in L.A. used Metro buses and trains to get to multiple meetings a day for a week. Safely. Happily. And on time.

Stop the eviction of the successful independent cafes by the Corporation of London! Why do we need a chain instead of locally owned businesses?

I mean, after a week, I can confirm that while it’s usable, iOS 26 just kind of sucks. Battery life, UI, lag. If there was an easy roll-back, I’d do it immediately.

(Yes, I already pre-ordered the new Jolla phone. No, the Librem 5 and Pinephones — including Pro — are not ready to drive daily.)
