I never ate at Schaefers but do remember riding through Chesapeake City in 80s on my road bike outings as an undergrad at U Delaware.
@cogdog Back in those days I lived very close to UD! Just over the MD state line, off route 273. After Schaefer’s I worked at the Newark Friendly’s. I was close enough to ride my bike to work :)
@brentsimmons That’s wild. I was at UD 1981-1983 and 1985-1986. We would ride bikes down to State Line Liquor as MD drinking age was 18 and DE was 20.
I hung out much at Deer Park Tavern, they had great nachos in the day.
@cogdog State Line used to sell me beer when I was 14! I prepared by not shaving all week, though I’m not sure that was actually necessary
