The NY State Senate are considering a bill that would make companies legally liable if they make chat bots that deliver advice in licensed fields like law, medicine and engineering

Browser developers are working on custom form controls ( `appearance:base`), the next giant task is looming: customisable input type=date/datetime/color pickers.

These are huge and have wildly varied UI. Send me your examples, I'd love to see them and build up a body of these pickers.

For those who want to test their perception of colour, I made a little game called "What's My JND"

What's My JND?

Find your Just Noticeable Difference in colour perception. How small a colour difference can you actually see?

I have a sign that hangs in my office. It is a quote from the revolutionary journalist Ida B. Wells: "The way to right wrongs is to turn the light of truth upon them."

Introducing The Newsground, an investigative journalism outlet funded by your morning cup of coffee.

Instead of hiding stories behind paywalls or relying on the whims of a billionaire, the reporting is funded by the sale of premium coffee.

Coffee and news have always gone hand in hand. The Newsground brings that tradition into the modern era. To make this work, I partnered with a Chicago roaster.

The project is still in its pre-launch phase, but it will be live this month: thenewsground.com

Before sending Apple any money this week, remember that Tim Cook attended a private screening of the Melania documentary at the White House later in the same day that Alex Pretti was murdered by this administration. He knew about it and went anyway.

Update: Persona's CEO Rick Song responded to my post on Brian Krebs' LinkedIn.

He clarifies that biometric data is deleted immediately, all data within 30 days, and that the 17-company subprocessor list is a superset across all customers, not specific to LinkedIn.

Useful clarification. But it confirms the core problem: users see a misleading list with no way to know which companies actually apply to them.

That's not transparency. That's the appearance of transparency.

If you are thinking about verifying your LinkedIn account, maybe read this first. It walks through their privacy disclosure to identify 17 companies that may receive and process the data you submit, including name, passport photo, selfie, facial geometry, NFC data chip, national ID #, DoB, email, phone number, address, IP address, device type, MAC address, language, geolocation etc. Shocker: It seems the biggest recipients are US-based AI companies. Hello Mastodon ๐Ÿ‘‹

I'm rogi.
I have a 2014 ThinkPad. I run a blog with โ‚ฌ5/month. Zero cloud.

I read privacy policies so you don't have to.

Last month: an AI had a 24KB psychological profile built from my conversations. Last week: my passport went through 17 US companies just to get a LinkedIn badge. Nobody mentioned that.

That's what I write about. Not paranoia, just what's actually in the documents.

Anchor positioning might be one of the most exciting features coming to #CSS. It is currently available under an experimental flag in Chrome Canary, and after playing with it for a bit, I couldnโ€™t stop myself from sharing what I found.

In my new article, I will show you some of my experiments โ€” https://kizu.dev/anchor-positioning-experiments/
