Hey, 90s kids! Your bedroom is now in a museum!

(Prague's National Museum, if you want to make a complaint.)

@Edent Needs more stars and moons, and some X Files posters, but 90% right 😂
@missiongiraffe @Edent seriously unrealistic: no one liked Ultima 8 enough to hang that poster in their room
@infinimatt @missiongiraffe @Edent You have been a thorn in my side for far too long, Avatar.
@MisterMoo @missiongiraffe @Edent the best part was the total lack of missile weapons b/c oops didn't finish the physics engine
@Edent so now I feel really bloody old.
@Edent Some slight incongruity there… I mean, we had a fax machine in the house, but not in my bedroom! Moreover, why is there a VGA switcher next to it?
Also, I don't think I ever saw a playtown carpet fitted to cover the whole room - only as rugs, maybe 1.5x1.5 to 2x2m big.

@pmdj

@Edent

Phone, RS232, or centronix switch box I guess?

@pmdj @Edent
Those switch boxes came in many flavours. I used to use serial ones and printer changeover switches that all looked the same. What that 4-way one is missing is the five wires connected to the back, dragging it off the table, and snaking all over the room.. Strange mix of things overall, and nowhere near enough wires!

@pmdj @Edent

The switch is for serial or parallel - but even then... stupid position... and where are the wires...🤪

The carpet (still) exist on rolls...

@pmdj @Edent I think it is an printer port switcher (lpt).
@pmdj @Edent I had it like this, you could buy those playtown carpet by the meter and the seller would cut them exactly to the room dimensions

@pmdj @Edent

That switch isn't necessarily a vga switcher. It could be a serial or parallel switch, although even those don't make sense, since fax machines typically didn't have any connection to a computer - they were standalone things that just connected directly to the phone line.

@Edent What 90s kid had a fax machine in their room? Landline maybe but fax machine...
@distinctdipole @Edent my first thought as well 🤣
@distinctdipole @Edent those kids, who lived in a small apartment with their parents who had to use these machines from time-to-time and their was not enough space to store “work stuff”.
@Edent Alt-text omits the best part: the carpet. :D
@Edent Looks like a precursor to the computer room in the houses I grew up in in the early 2000s. 😂
@Edent There are a few similar ones (also the ones from 80s kids) in Tampere video game museum!
@archydragon @Edent A C64 and no 1541 or even a Datasette?
@archydragon
I had that elite poster and I still have the Novella "The Dark Wheel".
@Edent
@Sroot @archydragon @Edent I still have the Frontier star map somewhere.

This was in an exhibition at the Leeds City Museum a couple of years ago.
@neilturner.me.uk I had that lamp!
I had wallpaper with that pattern on!
@Edent
Me too! I could feel the heat from it just looking at that photo!
@neilturner.me.uk
@Edent @neilturner.me.uk
I still have that lamp, but with an led bulb in it so it is a bit cooler...
@Edent With VHS cassettes of Bean the movie, and… does that say "Lesbian Sex"?

@Edent If anyone needs me i'll be in my height adjustable bed on an O2 tank watching re-runs of Reboot on YTV on period correct hardware.

👴🏻

@Edent Real talk, what BOSS of a kid had a flipping fax machine *and* their own personal telephone line in the 90s!?

What a baller.

@Edent what fancy richie had their own personal computer and a phone/fax machine in your room!

Pretty sure my brother had that play carpet though.
@Edent Complaint? I wanna go play some Quake on that computer.
@Edent @eltonfc No way, I wanna go see it!
@Edent It says it's a "Home office" and combines both a fax machine and a kids play carpet so that's a bit weird, but otherwise not bad!

@Edent

They got the high speed 56K modem. Nice.

@Edent Me encanta, 😍 que recuerdos

@Edent @dianea where all the things on the floor have gone ?

Why there is not huge stacks of randoms papers and phone books ?

This were the years in between where we all had to keep things.

Like wires. A lot of wires.

@Edent Damn, there's a Klan on display at one of the shelves. That hit me hard. I used to buy that zine - loved their music reviews, influenced my music tastes A LOT.
@Edent Which awkward kid was faxing shit?
@LabSpokane @Edent me after i figured out how RadioShack's fax back system worked. 😓
@LabSpokane @Edent If I had a fax in the 90s I would fax all of all my friends
@Edent Those mats were… no are GOATed
@Edent When I visit my parents, my rooms is still looking like that 😂😂 no need to go to the museum, they just kept it as it was
@Edent Ultima 8 doesn't get enough love.
@Edent Our fax and phone were in the hallway, not the kids‘ rooms.
@Edent in the Palais des Beaux-arts de Lille in 2023 (this one is more 00s kids than 90s)
@netsabes @Edent C'est la chambre de l'enfant organisé, propre et ordonné que mes parents ont toujours souhaité.

@Edent

The only thing missing is the waste bin full of tissues ... Giggles

Hugz & xXx

@Edent shit, i was born in 2001 and this is kinda nostalgic for me too LOL
