3 THINGS I'm grateful for when it comes to the #Fediverse:

1: I (almost) never see any AI slop. I'm subscribed to @404mediaco and I'm constantly horrified by their articles on AI slop - so common on Meta platforms. Not here. So #ThankYouFedi.

2: I'm never force-fed content by people I don't follow – so common in other places where algorithms rule. My time & attention are treated with RESPECT.

3: People here protect the privacy of children / don't post their pics. Consent is BIG. #ThankYouFedi

Steelmaker Cleveland Cliffs to idle 3 steel plants in Pennsylvania and Illinois

Steelmaker Cleveland-Cliffs will indefinitely idle three steel plants this summer. The company said Friday that it is being buffeted by sluggish demand and pricing for some of their products, like high carbon steel sheets. The company said the idlings of Pennsylvania plants in Steelton and one Conshohocken, and one in Riverdale, Illinois, are due to “insufficient demand and pricing.” It said the idlings have nothing to do with President Donald Trump’s tariffs. The idlings will be indefinite and start around June 30. Cleveland Cliffs said about 950 workers will be out of work during the shutdowns. It said its flat-rolled steel production levels will not be affected.
