Climate scientists, every goddam day.
@petergleick
Nous voici plongés dans le plus long, le plus triste, le plus insupportable et le moins satisfaisant des "Je vous l'avais bien dit" de toute l'histoire de l'humanité.
@petergleick ... soon joined by #scifi authors & a majority of #AI -scientists ...
@wigbert @petergleick Yes, I feel this way regarding AI. And climate.
@petergleick “best part” is that many people doesn’t even believe climate change. They act as if every single thing is a conspiracy against them.
@petergleick
In one recent week I had two work colleagues drop by my office to explain that climate change is causing havoc in California and that we have a global biodiversity crisis.
I’m both happy they are talking about it and dismayed that it’s taken them 20 years to hear what I’ve been saying every day.
Am I ineffective or are they deaf?
It’s exhausting.
@fatamorgana @petergleick
And what were the actions they took?
@petergleick true, although those who have been warning of the rise of the alt right for the past 20+ years at least stand in solidarity.
@timfearnside @petergleick
Sadly, both the rise of fascism and the #WarOnScience are related through both being funded by #FossilFools.
@GreenFire @petergleick Yes, and each bolstered by the right wing media machine.
@petergleick
yup. in the 1950's my science teacher was talking climate change dangers.
@petergleick the movie “Don’t Look Up” channels this really well.

@RplusDC @petergleick I have still not watched Dont Look Up.

I fear for the health of my large screen tv; its so big I cannot possibly miss when I launch something at it.

@petergleick
Climate change, fascism, non-living wages, war on women, on non-white races and on LGBTQ+ folks, environmental desasters benefitting CEO profits, wars to increase arms sales, 2nd Amendement to legitimize murder in families and schools, hormones in poultry, micro plastic in fish, killing inflation, extreme social inequality, hunger and desparation all over the globe:
ALL THIS IS MALE MADE! We are in the last period of patriarchy. Hope gives way to despair?
Fuck males
@Raven47 @petergleick well yeah, that's what they're for, yeah?
@petergleick I appreciate the sentiment but why is this in the pirate font
@the_dreaded_miss_skirt @petergleick We might be forced to become pirates. Do you believe the capital will become a fan of expensive human rights and real democracy when poverty in the industrial countries grows as well?
@petergleick Dasselbe dachte ich vor zehn Minuten.
Ein einziges, riesiges fucking 'TOLD YOU SO' verbindet eine zunehmend offen diffamierte, wissenschaftlich begründete Minderheit.
@petergleick summarises my inner tension perfectly. I'm finding ever harder to resist saying those words.
@petergleick also anyone smart who looked at Brexit
@petergleick while this is true, it is also why i stopped caring and instead intensified my depression.

@petergleick

In my opinion the best description is, we are procrastinating.
You get in a bad mood with all the deadlines and catastrophic events coming, so we do other, nicer things. And all we have to do is working a little harder later.
That would explain so many things.

Nothing strokes the ol' ego quite like a holier-than-thou instance on the pitfalls of human nature

@petergleick @malcircuit Under normal circumstances I'd say I told you so. But, as I have told you so with such vehemence and frequency already, the phrase has lost all meaning. Therefore, I will be replacing it with the phrase, "I have informed you thusly".

"Under normal circumstances, I'd say I told you so. But as I have told you so with such vehemence and frequency already, the phrase has lost all meaning.

Therefore, I will be replacing it with the phrase, I informed you thusly.

Oh. I so informed you thusly."

@mountdiscovery haha! The phrase I like to use is... "GTFO you don't deserve any help."

@petergleick

The most irritating point for me:

I read this and had to think immediately of the current rise of fascists and right wing extremists.

Sadly we have more than one crisis at the same time. And it seems people deal with them often in the same idiotic way...

@petergleick

"Tick, Tick

Fellow citizens, the truth is that our present can only be as stable as our future.

For too long we have hobbled from decade to decade, generation to generation, and millennium to millennium, myopically adhering to superfluous battles that can never be won. Never once as a species forwarding or embracing an all encompassing path towards a certainly better future.

Our excuses have been many, our reasoning mostly incoherent, and our lack of vision as a species, certainly fatal.

For in the meantime, as each tick of the ages has passed, the critical threats posed and ignored by our species discordance have increased exponentially.

Pandemic famine and disease, massively destructive weapons, fatal atmospheric and climate change, super volcanic eruptions, catastrophic space body impacts, Orwellian societies of unparalleled oppression, and many other global catastrophes too numerous to list here, waiting to befall us at any moment.

In fact, one of the most immediate and ominous threats facing America and much of the world today is the utilization of advanced technologies for the implementation of authoritarian control over societies.

My friends, the truth is that if we do not fight for and secure freedom today, the time will very soon come when it will be almost impossible to do so.

In retrospect, when one soberly considers the critical challenges that we must face together to survive as a species, our differences, at times, can become almost imperceptible."

@petergleick i wish it wasn't so. But it is. More protests, more disruptions

Me: can I just fucking retire now please?

@petergleick

And they will continue deny it until their last breath.
When they reach the moment of clarity that comes with the final firing of all the brain's neurons as it tries to find some way to stave off death, their final coherent thought will be, "the woke mind virus is real, and the liberals have killed me with it."

@petergleick And what about economy and capitalism ? I was thinking of this when reading this pict
I Tried to Save the USA in 2009 - The Political Prism - Medium

In 2005, I had given up on my Tiered Democratic Governance (TDG). The second version of my TDG book cited many books; some new, some old; some popular, some not-that-popular. I was building an…

The Political Prism
@petergleick Yes, that's exactly right. And when I look at the topics of discussion, not too many people realize that Trump's term of office is short and Putin's lifespan is only slightly longer when you compare both with the duration of the areas of the world that are already uninhabitable due to climate change.
