warming myself on this post like it's a space heater

I wish people would stop conflating “social media” with algorithmic content feeds.

Claiming that social media is harmful to kids (or anyone else) is as nonsensical as saying “hanging out with your friends is harmful for you” and I think it deserves way more pushback.

.. .extra FU points for Sollos statement: “All audio on Sollos is created by human artists and producers” ... using our LLM.

Also I was wrong, it's not a start up but part of Universal Music group. Might be artist get roped into giving away their right to LLM rereleases 😱

Technology — Sollos

Sollos

LLM Scam of the day:
Search for an artist on Apple music, get pushed shit a start up named Sollos "made" copying their music through an LLM instead of the originals.

Depriving the artist from the revenue.

Even if you value these "versions", they are machine made covers by third parties impersonating the artist.

Is this what Apple stands for @Pschiller ?

Let's be honest with ourselves. If social media content is too toxic for kids, it's probably too toxic for adults too.
If you’re one of the investors who decided that Allbirds is worth over 6 times as much as an AI company with no product than as a shoe company then you deserve to lose all of your money.

Capitalism never uses productivity to pay for leisure. It only uses it to pay for more productivity.

We have leisure because of unions, not because of productivity.

(i.e., AI will not result in a 4-day workweek.)

AI ain't the cause of huge layoffs. AI "has given air cover, more importantly, to execute on the right sizing that you probably needed to do a long time ago.” Blame CEOs and the market.

I believe this is something akin to the “process knowledge” that @pluralistic refers to frequently.

“The GP who listens to a patient describe fatigue and quietly decides not to ask about mood yet, who files something away for a later question, who notes a hesitation as clinically significant: this is not inefficiency. This is the craft.

The ambient scribe passively records all of this without understanding any of it.”
