Greenland’s parliament the Inatsisartut today passed a new law making it illegal for foreign entities to donate to political parties or politicians in Greenland. The law was passed with 22 to 0 votes.

That’s how much the people of Greenland want a hostile takeover from Trump and his cronies.

And in case you are wondering: X is NOT a popular medium in Greenland, so Musk will not be able to tamper with the public narrative

Grønland forbyder penge fra udlandet i politik og regeringsformand foreslår valg 11. marts

Anonyme og udenlandske donationer til partier og politikere er med ny lov gjort forbudt i Grønland.

@randahl Its amazing how easily other powers are able to not accept money in politics but us.
@randahl Wow! They showed him who was boss!

@randahl

Excellent news! Still, I would be vigilant. The richest man in the world wants what he wants.

@lindamarie @randahl
If you want something that is not yours but still you take it, that is theft and thieves go to jail !!!

@ericschutte @randahl

Agreed! Ideally, justice is served. However, holding people to account has not been very successful lately.

@randahl out of curiosity, what is a popular platform in Greenland?
@TheGymNerd I asked a person on Greenland, and he said Facebook for the older generation and TikTok and other platforms for the younger generation. According to him, very few had been using X.
@randahl ok... But I don't think that's any better TBH 😅
@randahl
Let's hope they also get/stay off YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.
@randahl I want some too! PLEASE? With 2 🍒 on top!
@randahl Good! I wish the UK would do the same...

@randahl ok UKgov, your turn...

#Ukpol #Ukpolitics

@Lazarou @randahl isn't this already the case in the UK?
@elduvelle @randahl sadly not, particularly in Farage's case 😔

@Lazarou @randahl
Oh yes, because of some kind of loophole right?

"As a US citizen, he [Musk] cannot make personal political donations in the UK.
But there have been reports suggesting a donation could be made through the British branch of X."

So I think the UK does already have a law against donations from foreign sources... It's just really to bypass apparently

Elon Musk in talks over Reform UK donation, says Nigel Farage

The Reform UK leader tells the BBC his party is "in negotiations" over a donation with the US tycoon.

BBC News
@elduvelle @randahl yep, most of British politics is like that. Little loopholes and winks between old friends. 🤷‍♂️
Labour dropped plan to ban foreign donors after Waheed Alli intervened, book claims

Peer who gave gifts to Keir Starmer is said to have blocked ban on potential Elon Musk donations to Reform UK

@randahl
Outstanding! I’m so happy for Greenland. As the USA dies of self-inflicted wounds, my fervent wish is that other countries learn from our disastrous missteps.
❤️🇬🇱❤️
@randahl That's the smart play. The Koch network infiltrated Canadian politics with "donations". If you want to keep corporate America from buying your government, make it explicitly illegal. Otherwise, their lawyers will find a loophole and the next thing you know, some reality television star is your head of state.
@DaveRussell @randahl it’s not like our oligarchs can’t afford to purchase any of your leaders they’d like.

@randahl

Damn, makes me want to move to Greenland now 🤣

@randahl Trump tries to invade Greenland, his Nazi wannabe Vikings will face some REAL Viking warriors and they won't do very well. This will go like store-bought trident fake SEALS trying to fight the real thing.
@randahl in The people of Greenland appear to be well educated and generally clever.
@randahl This makes me over-joyed and furious at the same time. Why can't the UK do such a simple thing like that. But good for Greenland. Not the first time I've seen a Nordic country leave the UK in the dust in terms of common sense and respect for democratic due process.

@randahl
Excellent decision 🇬🇱🇩🇰😊

The EU should do the same.

@randahl
Love it! My hope for humanity goes up a click.
@TheLastOfHisName

@randahl

This is how Citizens United should function.

@randahl Excellent, I hope USA never gets anything useful from other countries for the current white house while agent orange is
I also hope USA is mocked far and wide for allowing this buffoon of a cave man to be president again.

Just to be clear, I don't hate trump, I dislike him. His followers however anger me. They are defiant narcissists with egos as big as most billionaires.

Btw, I am American and I believe the general American public should be shamed by other countries for not voting against that absolute mess of a president.

I did, but not enough people did... clearly!

@randahl

Excellent news for them - glad they're learning from our disaster.

@randahl I have a book on Amazon, "The Donald Trump Phrase Book" that translates "I don't know" into 40+ languages, with pictures and vignettes for each ("I don't know" is all Trump should be allowed to say.)

For a language used in Greenland, Kalaallisnut, there's a picture of the green witch from The Wizard of Oz, with a suggestion that someone should tell The Donald that wicked witches are not the only things that are melting.

@randahl i hope we get the same here in Canada

@randahl Was Hitler concerned with the druthers of the Poles when he invaded their country for “lebensraum”?

Why should Drumpf and MAGAts be concerned with the druthers of Greenlanders?

@randahl you are right, but Greenland is a Facebook country, so Zuckerberg can tweak the algorithm, to favor the candidates the US favors.
Also Greenland is passing a law, that says you need to live on the property, if you buy it. To make sure all the houses etc is being bought by foreigners.
@Randahl Fink X is NOT a popular medium in Greenland but it certainly is a popular medium for journalists in greenland, so all its content will be amplified into the real world ...
@randahl maybe we could learn from them and pass the same law in other european countries or the european union.
