One of the neat features of Mastodon is that you can follow hashtags and the art hashtag has some great artists who post to it randomly.

It is a good way to get more followers here. Boost or retweet what you see that you think other people would like to see or read.

Welcome! A great way to get acclimated is to follow @FediTips or follow the hashtag #FediTips.
Also, once you’ve had a look around, you’ll probably want to find a smaller, better moderated instance to move to, since mastodon.social is neither of those, and many instances block it altogether. And once you settle down somewhere, remember to “tip your moderator.” They’re volunteers and will always appreciate your financial support to help keep the instance running.
Follow lots of people and hashtags, and remember to flesh out your account profile, maybe even peg an #introduction toot to the top of your timeline. You’ll get more followers back that way.

Just keep posting and responding. You will get the hang of Mastodon shortly. Follow anyone and everyone who sounds Interesting. And follow hashtags! Especially hashtags of things your are interested in. You can always unfollow later if you find it’s not a good fit. I value my engagement here, the actual conversations.
