I feel like starting a self-help group for men to be "real men." By real men, I mean men who don't go through life emotionally immature, prone to violence and confused that being a fuckhead with being a "tough." Men who are capable of understanding that other people matter, perhaps even more than themselves.
I think we're missing the forest for the trees when it comes fixing our gender issues in the US.
Yes, we should absolutely clear the runway for girls to have the full-breadth of options available to them so they can live full lives.
But the problem has never been that women need special care to succeed. The only reason girls can't just succeed is because men are preventing them.
An equal focus on girls needs to be focussed on boys, to show them that's it OK not to be tough. It's OK if a woman has an idea that you didn't have first.
And not for nothing, but not all boys benefit from this aggressive, violent, masculine culture that exists in the US. Not all boys know that most of these tough guys are a bunch phonies - scared shitless. If you step forward, they step back. But I don't want my son to learn that, I don't want him to have to constantly be defending himself against the asshole brigade.
The truth is that none of this hate is good for any us ... patriarchy, racism, homophobia, transphobia. All of this shit is meant to divide us and make us fight each other while they steal our wealth and kill people with impunity - the oligarchy that is.
