Yup. That's why big tech are kissing Trump's ring, they know ring-kissing is the only thing Trump actually cares about.
Trump doesn't care about anything except people praising him and giving him money and power. There is never going to be a priniciple that Trump stands for, because he has no principles at all except his own self-gratification.
@kevin @jonah If someone wants to take a position against deplatforming on principal, cozying up to fascists is absolutely not the way to demonstrate that.
Fascists always have very loud temper tantrums when deplatformed, but what they care about is that **they** were deplatformed. They are really fucking eager to not only deplatform but legally restrict the speech of anyone not-fascist as part of eliminating dissent.
@aureliuspublius @SallyStrange @jonah Identify which parts of the Project 2025 gameplan are going to be good for "the little guys".
Is it the deregulation of would-be monopolies?
The total destruction of the educational system?
Is it the insertion of politician's opinions into common medical scenarios?
Is it the plan to drive up the cost of living across the board with tariffs?
The plan to deregulate all pollution?
The elimination of safety standards?
You're wrong.
@dymaxion @SallyStrange @jonah agreed, but please understand that the Democrats ran on “nobody is safe until everyone is safe” then the moment they won they ran a full on genocide campaign against people like me.
Medically vulnerable people are the largest marginalized group in America and both the parties have been trying to genocide us for five years now. After watching the Dems betray the largest marginalized group in America wasn’t even shocking that they turned their back on trans people? If they could give the finger to all of us, hurting a tiny portion of the population would be nothing to them.
@SallyStrange Oh, they are, but not in a consensual way. And @aureliuspublius won't like it at all.
@aureliuspublius @jonah no no see that’s the problem just because the Dems belong to the mega corporations doesn’t mean the Republicans fight for the people.
This just means the two capitalist parties are for the mega corporations and against the people.
In general I found that privacy somehow became a right wing talking point. While it used to be a left wing thing.
Not sure how that happened.
But in that light it does make sense that a privacy focused product can have right wing leadership.
@jonah What a huge bummer. Was exploring and just about to sign up for Proton mail + calendar, but no more! I draw the line at approving fascism, let alone supporting it
Question is: why even weigh in here? What possible benefit could there be, knowing that you'll harm your business by aligning with authoritarians? Especially considering your whole deal is privacy / encryption to resist them
Just stupid business
Confused
I was confused as at first considering his follow-up posts on X after this one. It seems his positive remarks were simply in response to the idea of taking on the big tech companies, factually correct or not. I wonder if Andy understands that the only reason Republicans went after bigtech was as revenge against those who didn’t fall in line.
@[email protected] @[email protected] Fastmail may have a union, but they laid off 60% of the bargaining unit in the middle of contact negotiations: https://union.place/@fastmailunited/112672408714595554 So I don't know how much power the remaining union members have left, or whether I would cheer Fastmail. Ask @[email protected] I guess.
