Optimist mugged by reality, still.

Billionaires shouldn't exist.

NAFOtastic.

Camouflaged, at times. Sec cleared. Troglodyte, tech savvy ludite, not-quite-erudite grudge holder extraordinaire.

Humorless people stay the hell away.

Opinions and fluids expressed solely mine. Go find your own.

So, now they had a different style JP plate, akin to the original movie's #TJ Wranglers. About a year or so ago they brought back a newer version of the JP-logo-on-black plate.

Context: in the original books, Jurassic Park had gas-powered TJ Wranglers - NO FORD EXPLORERS, EVER - and people organizing a rescue expedition in book 2 ( "Lost World" ) were driving hybrid-electric #XJ Cherokees.

I've had the old version of JP-logo-on-black plate, since Universal Studios Orlando opened. It was on the XJ front bumper, then went to the rear plate holder, when it was hidden by the off road tire-carrier. Now, the JP-number plates are in the rear, behind carrier, and the much older JP-on-the back to the front bumper, on a winch flip-mount.

My kids call the XJ "dinosaur car" since they could barely walk.

Someone who poses as part of the Murican "intelligentsia" had very narrow assumptions about a subject on which they are not very well versed, and that I was very involved with, to wit the safety of #CBRNE stuff. Military, but also civilian side.

They only know the domestic side transport. International escort of CBRNE sensitive stuff is often the realm of plains-clothes ( "tactical chic") Technical Escort Units and Nuclear Disablement Teams, both military entities, with expertise and authorization for lethal force.

So, when a NNSA team was rumored to be stranded, and couldn't be brought into the US (HINT HINT) they assumed it was domestic transport. Never occurred to their inflated self important mind that we provide a lot of R and N stuff to FVE allies. In fact, nobody ever had a start stockpile of nuclear stuff; WE provided everyone.

I would very (they like to use the word very) much to see how far an armored truck and their "large trucks" and "armed police escorts (visible)" would go into the sea. My bet is, about 50ft into the sand on a beach. See, large armored trucks tend to not float very well, even on salt water...

I was watching, late last night, videos of reaction to Vance's spewing of support to nazis in Germany.

Then I started understanding (mostly) some #German, and am seriously worried.

It happened once, years ago, when I was into reading Old English texts, namely a nice edition of translated and annotated #Beowulf.

Worries me because, as well known, German is a prank of Teut tribes against the Romans, not really an actual language, lacking proper grammar and orthography, etc.

;)

This kind of thing might explain SO MUCH about boomers.

Next time she visits, I am gonna demo her computer wih a live version of Mint, so she can see how easy it can be to get away from windows.

Which she had no clue how to "undownload" [sic] (she meant "uninstall") and get something else.

Basic positive exposure does WONDERS.

Most people do NOT know nor realize how leashed and blinded they are by corporate owned software companies.

IME, people who are shown better, easier stuff that is not predatory often tend to appreciate it. The exception is either people who are invested into the predatory products or gnarly old fossils allergic to change.

Food for thought.

She had no clue how to go about this, because she never been taught, nor had anything other than shitty streamed music with ads. Everything is an app that is downloaded from a corporate walled garden repository.

So I sent her a DVD/RW external unit, since her computer does NOT have an optical reader/writer.

She spent the past two days trying to burn a CD, even though I mention that she should call if she had doubts.

Finally, she managed to do so, and she is proud and stuff =)

I made a quick video of my own desktop burning an ISO of a Linux install (the first 20seconds or so that it takes to load blank, select files, get the burn going, blahblah).

She was appalled by the ease.

I am (rescuing?) bringing my niece away from the world of widows to Linux.

She's been bummed about privacy and constant "BUY THIS, BUY THIS", and an ever worsening MS Office that wants you to do what it wants, not do what YOU want to do.

Recently, she wanted to "make a cd" (burn a collection of audio files into a CD, like we did to cassette tapes ages ago) to listen on an actual stereo.
