The US and Russia invested significant sums developing the smallest nukes possible. They both discovered it’s nearly impossible to accurately control the blast size of a small nuclear device. You can look up what the devices they came up with looked like.

Here's a neat video that goes behind the scenes about how Atlas Lens Co made custom spherical IMAX lenses for Dune Pt 3. There's some wild stuff in here: their new IMAX lenses actually cover up to a 100mmx100mm frame (!!!).
Also I've never sen the inside of a lens design lab before; what a cool place!
