I have exactly one movie queued up this friday afternoon, and then I have officially run out of movies that I downloaded that one time with a vague commitment to watching them at some point. This makes for a short list this week, and a longer one next week, by virtue of repeating the process with a brand new iteration of "that one time". As one does

And so, one last time: when I get back from getting a pizza, should I watch

White noise (2022)

Just to have it written down,
and on the off chance it comes in handy on a rainy day where inspiration seems to be a foreign notion,
and/or to feed a future _ebook someone might build off of this account,

Escape from New York (1981)
Constantine (2005)
October sky (1999)
Blade Runner (1982/2007)
How to steal a million (1966)

Smilla's sense of snow (1997)
Kimi (2022)
Emily the criminal (2022)
Beneath the harvest sky (2013)
White noise (2022)

And thus our months-long experiment in cinematic democratized randomization enters into a second phase, with a new batch of movies I downloaded that one time. Which is all to say:

@sargoth casablanca mid af movie
@batterpunts *glances at poll* I seem to on way on my way to finding out
@sargoth frankly my dear i don't give a damn

@sargoth my college women’ center used to give people money to have a drop in snack time on Friday nights. One year, spouse and I put together a really decadent set of things which were fallen upon with cries of desperation and relief as our friends came in the door after watching a free showing of the Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, which had horrified them.

I know nothing about any of the other movies, but fwiw. I sure wouldn’t want to set the tone for 2025 with that one!

@gannet I love hearing stories like these. they fill the world with context and with affective association

...altho this particular story does put a damper on my title-based methodology for picking movies

@sargoth I guess you can’t judge a film by its title? As it were
@gannet Everything Everywhere All At Once - a contender for inclusion that did not fit the ascending year pattern - holds promise in that regards
@sargoth I have seen that one, and it definitely lives up to its title. Also, I liked it a lot.
@sargoth ooh, which version of Man With a Movie Camera? There’s been some *incredible* soundtracks made for it retroactively.

@fluffy I don't rightly know; the file name does not give any indication

a couple of weeks back, Battleship Potemkin was an option. it too apparently got soundtracks made in retrospect

@fluffy [days later] the movie told me its soundtrack
@sargoth Ooh I don’t know if I’ve seen that one!

@fluffy the into splash screens indicate it was a version restored for the 2016 silent film festival in Amsterdam

it amuses me that it'd be simpler to send the magnet link than to try to tease out which version it is from context clues

@sargoth So, like many (not most) I voted for the Wise Men movie 🎄
@Mabande I have been informed it is a headbanger of an experience
@sargoth you should watch Star Wars (1958)!
@gnomon I see you already know why it's on the list
