I have exactly one movie queued up this friday afternoon, and then I have officially run out of movies that I downloaded that one time with a vague commitment to watching them at some point. This makes for a short list this week, and a longer one next week, by virtue of repeating the process with a brand new iteration of "that one time". As one does

And so, one last time: when I get back from getting a pizza, should I watch

Just to have it written down,
and on the off chance it comes in handy on a rainy day where inspiration seems to be a foreign notion,
and/or to feed a future _ebook someone might build off of this account,

Escape from New York (1981)
Constantine (2005)
October sky (1999)
Blade Runner (1982/2007)
How to steal a million (1966)

Smilla's sense of snow (1997)
Kimi (2022)
Emily the criminal (2022)
Beneath the harvest sky (2013)
White noise (2022)

And thus our months-long experiment in cinematic democratized randomization enters into a second phase, with a new batch of movies I downloaded that one time. Which is all to say:

the reason this movie made the list is that I heard that a song by Air is in it

I can confirm
the song is in it

@sargoth I can confirm that is also the reason I voted for it, and that I know nothing about the movie besides that.

@aschmitz congrats on being the deciding vote

also
if you find yourself wanting to see a really slow movie with a stellar soundtrack, I can recommend

the movie was apparently filmed in 3D (in 1953!), and you can definitely see the moments when they decided to showcase that effect

also, the movie correctly posits that you can not make deals with unreconstructed southerners. a life lesson to take to heart

I was asked about the seemingly random and nonsensical selection of movies, so here's a recap

For the first round, it consisted of movies that I had downloaded at some point in time and then never bothered to watch. The weekly poll was a neat vehicle to get around to watching 'em

Then I ran out of movies, and so I downloaded a brand new set, seeking out more and/or less famous movies I'd vaguely like to get around to seeing one day. And so, the weekly polls continued into their second round

The four selection criteria are
1. that I have not seen it before
2. that it is not accidentally porn or propaganda or somesuch
3. that it'd make for a nice friday evening watch (to suit the pizza, see), and
4. that it'd fill in a gap in my general awareness of movie history

given time, this will turn me into a well rounded individual who Gets References, and in the short term it is a nice little moment to look forward to each week

I'm building my own ancient tradition slash educational praxis

I have movies queued up until early 2025, which sounds impressive until you remember that, at the rate of one movie per week, that's slightly over 25 titles

fortunately, fridays are a renewable resource, so there is no rush. it is rumored that there are a finite number of movies, but I think we don't have to worry about that for a while

if you want to join in the voting, it mostly happens fridays around 16:00 (4 pm) Europe time, give or take

most weeks are decided by a one (1) vote margin. I suspect you know who you are

@sargoth I feel like I should point out all of us also have a finite number of Fridays
@jaystephens this has good implications for mondays
I am happy to announce that the time has come to vote for this week's #FridayMovie. As is tradition, here are four options, some of which you may or may not revere as long time favorites
