I have exactly one movie queued up this friday afternoon, and then I have officially run out of movies that I downloaded that one time with a vague commitment to watching them at some point. This makes for a short list this week, and a longer one next week, by virtue of repeating the process with a brand new iteration of "that one time". As one does
And so, one last time: when I get back from getting a pizza, should I watch
Just to have it written down,
and on the off chance it comes in handy on a rainy day where inspiration seems to be a foreign notion,
and/or to feed a future _ebook someone might build off of this account,
Escape from New York (1981)
Constantine (2005)
October sky (1999)
Blade Runner (1982/2007)
How to steal a million (1966)
No country for old men (2007)
Smilla's sense of snow (1997)
Kimi (2022)
Emily the criminal (2022)
Beneath the harvest sky (2013)
White noise (2022)
And thus our months-long experiment in cinematic democratized randomization enters into a second phase, with a new batch of movies I downloaded that one time. Which is all to say:
I have four movies queued up this friday afternoon. When I come back in an hour after getting a pizza, should I watch
It occurs to me that I have done this long enough to warrant a hashtag. Thus, I encourage you to vote on this week's #FridayMovie
Which is to say
I have three movies queued up this friday afternoon. When I come back in an hour after getting a pizza, should I watch
It is friday, and you know what that means
that's right
the weekly #FridayMovie poll!
After I press post, I go outside to get a pizza. When I get back with said pizza, should I watch
I just realized the second round now has gone on as long as the first one did, and so it might be prudent to make a list of previous movies. Just to have 'em posted
Lost in translation (2003)
Good bye Lenin (2003)
How to marry a millionaire (1953)
The rocky horror picture show (1975)
24 hour party people (2002)
The long goodbye (1973)
Gun fury (1953)
Elvira: mistress of the dark (1988)
The long kiss goodnight (1996)
The incredibly true adventure of two girls in love (1995)
Modesty Blaise (1966)
Friends, we are doing something new this tuesday. We are kicking off the #FridayMovie poll early, to give democracy a chance to play itself out. And so, I present to you, four movies, the winner of which I will watch after getting home from a long day in three days
I urge you to choose wisely. Democracy itself (or at least the parts of it that we inhabit) depends on it!
My fellow #FridayMovie enthusiasts, this is your captain speaking. I am happy to announce that round 2 is rapidly (as these things go) coming to a close. This, in conjunction with me having a slow saturday eve, has prompted me to speed things up a notch by watching OtherLife (2017)
Voting and participatory democracy will return next week
It's thursday, which means it's randomly recurring poll time. You now have the fate of the future in your hands
And so, #FridayMovie round two is officially over. To recap:
How to make an American quilt (1995)
Operation Avalanche (2016)
Ghost world (2001)
Dr Strangelove (1964)
River of no return (1954)
The day the Earth stood still (1951)
OtherLife (2017)
The good, the bad and the ugly (1966)
[The good, the bad and the weird (2008)]
Plan 9 from outer space (1957)
The conversation (1974)
Bagdad café (1987)
Dead men don't wear plaid (1982)
The Andromeda strain (1971)
The omega man (1971)
and the winner is
[long dramatic pause that extends to such a degree that several audience members look around in discomfort]
Silent movie
