gpg could you possibly stop that

I don't want to cosplay as my own CA, really

@arrjay consider enc ?
GitHub - life4/enc: ๐Ÿ”‘๐Ÿ”’ A modern and friendly CLI alternative to GnuPG: generate and download keys, encrypt, decrypt, and sign text and files, and more.

@kkarhan oh neat, this fills several spaces of "can I have gpg with reasonable defaults"

@arrjay which is why I intent to package it for my #GNUfree #toybox + #musl / #linux distro called OS/1337...

  • Because #GnuPG sadly is the prime example of what @landley once said: '[...] #OpenSource can't do [good] #UI'[...]

  • There is nice looking #FLOSS but #GPG is really one of those things that gets beginners to choose violence in their dreams...

It also allows you to add some cool functions in your .bash_aliases if you so choose.

  • Like encrypt $FILEMANE $KEYFILE that then spits out $FILENAME.encrypted.asc as a #PGP-encrypted file...

Either way, #enc is a pretty awesome tool and I think it's one of those essentials anyone looking for a #TUI / #CLI-first distro would want.

So feel free to checkout #OS1337 & @OS1337 ...

@landley @kkarhan @OS1337 haha I was looking at the OS/1337 stuff for โ€œcheap, stupid offline key managerโ€ ideas

@arrjay OFC I'd also recommend to take a look at pass which is a password manager for use on #CLI / #TUI interfaces...

Granted the goal of @OS1337 is to make the simplest yet still useable #distro one can actually work on , based off me not being willing to do #LinuxFromScratch or @yoctoproject or even more #cursed stuff like #OpenADK and also wanting to answer the question:

Pass: The Standard Unix Password Manager

Pass is the standard unix password manager, a lightweight password manager that uses GPG and Git for Linux, BSD, and Mac OS X.

@arrjay
"What is the simplest #Linux distro I could still work under?"

Dropbear SSH

@arrjay
And basically I think that terminals are like the furthest far back anyone would want to go with comfortably these days, as noone would want the noise and inconvenience of a #teletype - much less the #privacy & #InfoSec issues when everything is printed on plaintext paper...

Not to mention #SSH is #convenient yet #secure and an 80x25 MDA terminal is easy to digest for both #BrailleScreens and #TTS systems...

DEC VT320: The Classic 1987 Library Computer Terminal

Digital Equipment Corporation built plenty of terminals in the 70s and 80s, but we're focusing on the VT320-C2. Amber monochrome, LK201 keyboard, and a favor...
