@Tutanota Deepl is only privacy cautious on paid plans. For free they keep certain data.
@Tutanota you have to update the list searx is dead searxng is the new searx.
@Tutanota @ente is a great alternative to Google Photos, and also have an authenticator app.
@Tutanota DeepL is very good, but a more FOSS-oriented alternative would be https://libretranslate.com
LibreTranslate - Free and Open Source Machine Translation API

Free and Open Source Machine Translation API. Free to download, offline capable and easy to setup. Run your own API server in just a few minutes.

@Tutanota

So... #Signal and #Wire, which both have issues, but not #Matrix / #XMPP? And for video, 2 #YouTube front ends and a proprietary YouTube clone, but no direct mention of #Peertube? And for Translation, the proprietary #Deepl, but no mention of the local and #Privacy respecting #Firefox #translate

I appreciate the intent of this post, but the research is... outdated at best.

@Blort Thanks for your feedback, we'll consider this for updating the image!
@Tutanota @Blort Better yet, make it an HTML page and open-source the code so people can make pull requests to update it.

@Blort @Tutanota

Just playing the devils advocate here, one could argue that Matrix / XMPP have their own “issues”.

@governorkeagan @Tutanota

Sure. The question is, are those issues magnitudes of orders worse to the point that they don't deserve to be put on the same platform. Because currently on this image they're not.

Even if their issues are roughly, ballpark the same size (which I don't believe they are, but whatever), then they should at least be on this image alongside the options given here.

@Blort @Tutanota xmpp has few issues like emotions etc what else are you talking about?

@methuselah @Tutanota

I was referring to issues with WIre and Signal, not XMPP and Matrix.

@Tutanota Immich is a nice self-hosted (!) Google Photos alternative.
@satmaar @Tutanota my screen said "download on Google Play". I suppose you have to be standing on your feet to shoot them

@ArchaeoIain @Tutanota I don’t understand the point you are trying to make.

If you are specifically interested in getting Immich mobile client outside of Google Play, F-Droid seems to have it. And I’m pretty sure you can just build the app from source if you don’t trust the distributors.

@Tutanota
Maps: Locus
Cloud: Nextcloud self hosted
Password manager: Enpass (synchronizes via WebDAV with Nextcloud)

@FriedeFreude @Tutanota

+1 for nextcloud

Also I would advocate, if LineageOS no longer supports one's android device, or if one just wishes a(n even more) deblobbed OS, I can heartily recommend #DivestOS

@Tutanota any suggestions for replacing Google Scholar? My students use it all the time.
@Tutanota Keepassxc and keepassdx both also do authentication 2fa and they're both open source

@Tutanota
More email alternatives (EU based):
GMX
Protonmail

Password Managers :
Keeper

Have tried to degoogle as much as possible but use family link to supervise my kids phones, so it might be a few years before I'm completely free of google and migrated to a murena phone .... which btw uses e/OS alternative to android OS.

@Tutanota for chat missing threema and zulip (can also be self hosted)
@Tutanota in email and calendar Proton is also an alternative. In "Google Play Store" you could also add Droid-ify and Aurora Store.
@Tutanota Immich for photos! They even provide a helm chart for the k8s-inclined. It's all self-hosted, the data never leaves your stack.

@Tutanota This is what I use as Google alternatives 👇🏻

#DeGoogle #Degooglify

@Tutanota what about @e_mydata as an android alternative? I’ve been thinking about getting a Fairphone with /e/Os installed on it.

@Tutanota The attached picture can be improved, a bit outdated.

For chat, Matrix and XMPP clients (e.g Element and Monal) can be used.

Libre Translate can replace Google Translate.

2FAS Auth is a nice project for OTP codes.

Strongbox is nice to store passwords.

PeerTube is a real YouTube alternative instead of YouTube facades.

And Yandex is an efficient search engine.

#privacy #web #degooglisonsinternet #degooglify #Android #iOS #opensource

@pylapp For me, Yandex and the privacy hashtag don't go together.
@Tutanota Not sure Authy is a good option. They make it incredibly difficult to get your data back. When they discontinued their desktop app I had one hell of a time migrating away from them. Took days.

🌐🔒 Hey everyone! I'm 11 and super passionate about digital privacy! I use a bunch of cool alternatives like Tutanota for email, ProtonMail, and even Session for messaging. I love using privacy-focused search engines like Ecosia and Mojeek, and I avoid the big tech companies. I also use F-Droid for apps and keep my Android as private as possible. Digital privacy is super important, and I think schools should teach us about it! Let’s protect our info together! 💻✨ #DigitalPrivacy #PrivacyMatters
Made with ecosia ai chat aka openai
I am actually 11 just so u know
@Tutanota
Well, except the best email client being #k9 and missing @e_mydata this is a pretty good list
@PeterSommerlad
@Tutanota started when i was still running xp
@Tutanota wow! I can replace glogle just by using Firefox, searx, signal, tuta, lineageOS, open street map, bitwarden, freeOTP AND vimeo?? I wonder why more people don't do this!
@Tutanota
Missing:
Mail/calendar - posteo.de
Browser - LibreWolf
Search - MetaGer
Android OS - DivestOS
Messenger - Briar
@Tutanota What about Vivaldi as a browser and Manjaro as phone os?
@Tutanota ente for photos, simplex.chat should replace wire
@Decentralize Nice recommendations :)
@Tutanota I am completely de-gafamed. Thanks
@Tutanota Don't forget the Aurora alternative google play store. I also use Linux and the X-lite stripped windows 10 version on my home PC's so I don't have That recall thing.

@Tutanota For those looking for a replacement for Google Keep there's Joplin.

Been using so far and it's actually good.
