Ethical Revolution
Piped

An alternative privacy-friendly YouTube frontend which is efficient by design.

@ralen @Tutanota @invidious @peertube Piped is just a frontend to Youtube, and has started to be blocked by Google.
@cube @Tutanota @invidious @peertube works for me and is not "just frontend". proxy + extentions + no accounts + no recomendations
@cube @Tutanota @invidious @peertube google will try to block anything they can to force us to watch their shitty ads and use their services. but they cant ban every instance. when main (piped.kavin.rocks) might be broken, others (adminforge, nosebs etc) still function

@Tutanota @invidious @peertube

When it comes to #YouTube alternatives, I will never stop bringing up #Newpipe for #Android devices. It is without a doubt the best one I've ever encountered for watching youtube videos and customising your own experience.

@ina I would add Libretube, I see it as a pretty and fancier Newpipe.

@joe9nf

I don't see it available for android tablets, so I'll have to pass but thanks for the rec

@ina @joe9nf you can use libretube on android tablets. I just stopped using it because no matter what instance I went to, it refused to load.

@el_haych2024 @joe9nf

Ok, I found it on F-droid but thanks for letting me know about your trouble with it!

@el_haych2024 @ina @joe9nf constant issue with it for years, I don't know how some seem to use it successfully.
@Tutanota @openstreetmap also- best apps that use OSM are Organic Maps, Magic Earth, and OSMAnd for phones.
@Tutanota @openstreetmap - Challenge I have faced - I have yet to find an open source or other "free" alternative that is as accurate as Google Maps. Might be good in cities - but I tend to focus on "road less traveled"

@Tutanota @openstreetmap

I use the app OSMand on my smartphone. Works also as a navigation app. Useful for all kind of individual traffic. Even for pedestrians ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜‰ Works offline!

@Foxle @Tutanota @openstreetmap I love OSM, but for some users Organic Maps could be more simple (also based on OSM).

:)

@organicmaps

@racuna @Tutanota @openstreetmap @organicmaps

Thx for your tip! I will give it a try!

@Tutanota

Did most of it, except google maps (and android ๐Ÿ™ˆ)
Only google maps works for android auto...

@openstreetmap

#foss

@Tutanota @organicmaps is more user-friendly though
@Tutanota what do you think of the @Vivaldi browser? Admittedly, it also uses the Chromium engine but they seem dedicated to making it private

@jda @Tutanota @Vivaldi

If I could chime in for just a sec. Personally, I think #Vivaldi is a sleek and easy-to-use web browser. However, the fact that they came from a project that was started by #Google makes me wary of them. That's not to say I don't recommend using them, it's just that at this point I don't believe that there's any browser out there that makes me feel 100% secure (and that includes #Firefox , which is what I use).

@ina @Tutanota @Vivaldi do you mean because they use the Chromium engine? It is a little scary honestly but they're very open about the project and I'm hoping they keep an eye on backdoors

@jda @Tutanota @Vivaldi

Yes, exactly. It's not them specifically, just Google and anything that comes from them. They've been proven to not be trustworthy, time and time again, but like I said I don't trust anyone nowadays. But Vivaldi is a good browser, not hard to use at all.

@Tutanota when will you stop the Google, Apple, Microsoft OS monopoly?

@Tutanota

MetaGer is an excellent search engine.
