Hey!

Do you make stuff? Are you doing threads about your work in progress (WIP)?

Any stuff.

Software's my jam, but I follow people who make lace, cabinets, music, drawings, food, articles & books, videos, photos, paintings, boats and planes model and real, people who make anything, to be honest, anything but hate.

I like it when you share the WIP, and I am not the only one who does.

In fact, following along folks as they work is often one of the most pleasing parts of my day.

Show us!

@GeePawHill got a couple of coats of lacquer on that coffee table top. Also did some test pieces for miter splines for the legs. (First is madrone; second is walnut. Gonna stick with all madrone.)

WIP is sloooow though. Not much free time during hours when it's okay to make power tool noises.

@GeePawHill I feel like it'd be a little weird to just insert some text from the horror novel that I'm working on, so instead I'll show you four things I found in my research process yesterday ^_^

@GeePawHill
Base of a wooden chandelier I'm working on.
@GeePawHill I just joined Mastodon today! Here is my latest foil work: Capybara Zodiac Signs.
@GeePawHill @keenan Working on some cornhole boards. I made the boards myself, did the base painting, and my wife is gonna finish with some more detailed painting. We're making them for our alma maters
@GeePawHill currently writing every day for #WeblogPoMo2024. My challenge is to write about 31 songs in 31 days. I’m officially 11/11, which I never expected to achieve.
@GeePawHill I'm recovering from a lot of stuff but I'm currently getting back into comics. If anyone here likes gay girl knights smooching and busting surveillance states, I've got a lot coming down the pipe, and hundreds of pages from my first comic up for free!

@GeePawHill I agree dude! It's where humanity is for me. Creating shit, even (especially!) for fun.

I just always feel it's not good enough. Which I know doesn't matter a bit.

@GeePawHill One of my pastime projects for the past few years has been a raytracing renderer. More precisely, a physically based, spectral, path tracing renderer. In this scene there are two white lights, a glass sphere, and a glass prism. The rainbow cast on the floor is an emergent phenomenon, caused by the dispersion of light based on the wavelength in the prism.
@GeePawHill One of the big joys in computer graphics is that bugs and implementation problems can result in entertaining pictures. Here are a few outtakes over the years!

@GeePawHill

I am an architect, artist and general tinkerer and always have something in progress, it's the nature of creative people I believe...

@GeePawHill The projects hashtag was awesome for this when I first joined Mastodon (during the Twitter exodus). Let's see if it still is…

EDIT: Well, wasn't expecting that. (nonstop Hackaday posts)

@GeePawHill Hey, I make a lot of different stuff. From 3d printing to woodworking or model making. Maybe you might like it: https://social.makerforums.info/@Spark

@GeePawHill I currently have a WIP thread about my efforts to implement a Sharp MZ-80K emulator using a Raspberry Pico. Making reasonable progress so far. The thread starts here: https://mastodon.online/@psychotimmy/112982458258708013
Tim Holyoake (@[email protected])

Finally getting around to writing a Raspberry pico-based Sharp MZ-80K emulator. It should be relatively straightforward - I hope. I'm not expecting progress to be fast as I'm making sure I properly understand & document each component I write (or incorporate from other projects). I'm determined to have as little cruft as possible. My aim is to implement a MZ-80K, not every Z80-based computer (or even every Sharp MZ) ever released. #FamousLastWords #RetroComputing #SharpMZ #SharpMZ80K

@GeePawHill I design and build small robots and tech art projects. Always WIP so that's mainly what I post.
Nixie (@[email protected])

Attached: 2 images Photography thread. All my own, may not be great, I don't care, anything I post in it, it's something I really like. Starting with "The man that looks through holes" I do, literally. I always wonder what's on the hidden places you don't normally see.

@GeePawHill Build threads are my favorite format.

Here's my newest. It's all done except for delivering it to its recipient.

And here's my ongoing, since March, printer enclosure thread.

Thanks for asking! 😜

Kernel Bob (@[email protected])

I am starting a new project. As usual, I'll make a running Mastodon thread and a hashtag, #BirthdayTower. Two great nephews are having a joint birthday party in August. They will be five and three. Their uncle and I are going to make them a light+sound toy. He's doing the woodworking, and I'm doing the electronics and firmware. So, unlike most of my projects, this is a collaboration, and it has a deadline. 🧡 1/∞ #BirthdayTower

@GeePawHill I have started working on a brand new edition of my book β€œThe Grumpy Programmer’s Guide to Testing PHP Applications”
@GeePawHill Haven't touched it in a bit - got busy - at the last update I was learning cable lacing.

Am I overengineering this? Lol. And how. Far far worse than you'd expect. It's my superpower. So it started with a script for a one off project. It kept running out of memory. Three years, multiple power tool purchases, and a lot if mistakes involving DIN Rail mounting later I'm doing me...

@GeePawHill I know some folks that make pushups, does that count? #100pushUps

But more seriously, is there a super generic hashtag for makers/tinkerers in general? I know a few that should use it, and I would also like to follow. It's inspiring.

@GeePawHill I'm doing astrophotography these days : https://mamot.fr/@corpsmoderne/114125743199088198

(other pictures and details of my gears and tries on my feed ^^ )

@GeePawHill not really doing threads (even if I post statuses now and then), more like blog posts about my retrocomputing hobby: a FPGA clone of an Atari ST, and learning about digital circuit design in the process.

@GeePawHill i agree! that's part of why I'm going to be writing a compiler from scratch live on twitch, soon!

@GeePawHill I started crocheting leg & pulse warmers, when I was cold, now spring has sprung, so they won't be used til next winter (but hopefully will be finished by then 😁).

Oh, and as it's spring, I'm "making" tomatoes, herbs, chilies and the like and will post their progress throughout the year.

P.S. I don't really do WIP threads, as I post about them too randomly and then can't be bothered to find the previous posts again. πŸ™ˆ Might be an idea though..

@GeePawHill This rocks. And you Rock because of it. Nice to meet you. #WOOT

@GeePawHill I try to record a cover song by myself and upload it to YouTube every few weeks, and right now I'm working on fixing up a smashed guitar someone left on my porch.
@wndxlori @GeePawHill What a lovely idea, Lori! And your tip makes sense, though mostly I learned there's a "laser engraver" and it can do cool stuff like this. 😹

@GeePawHill

I am working on a cheese process! The primary fermentation is the easy part here. I've gotta figure out where and how to dry them off and let them get ripe.

I also want to double the size of my rounds, and that will require me to figure out some new cheese forms and ripening boxes.

Attached: 3 images I've been excited about cheese this past week. I've got three passes all in different stages right now. Basically converted my yogurt recipe into a cheese recipe, so I don't know what to call it. A long mesophilic fermentation with rennet. Penicillium candidum and geotrichum candidum for a bloomy rind. #cheese #cheesemaking #bloomy #penicillium #geotrichum #fermentation #milk #immersioncirculator
