"Khalili’s working definition, plainspoken and powerful, anchors the book. Extractive Capitalism, she argues, is the system by which primary commodities (oil, iron ore, bauxite, coal, sand) are excavated, transported, processed and sold at markups that funnel profits to a narrow investor class while externalising costs on to workers, communities and the environment."

@maugendre @energy @geography Can you explain why human made deforestation and wildfires don't count?

@K_Reuss_Manaus @energy @geography

Sure.
This beautiful NASA video shows carbon dioxide, which mostly is produced by energy consumption.
Other greenhouse gases (more than CO2) are produced by human made deforestation, wildfires, livestock. For example: https://mas.to/@maugendre/113992940508282754

Corporations should look at how other continents (not Australia) work. • Any country should ban bovine import from Brazil, Argentina, US, Australia. • Any country should castrate male calves. Particular buffalos in Pakistan & India. #beef #emissions #GHG

@maugendre @energy @geography CO2 by burnt wood is no CO2, because other gases like CO were emitted too? Really interesting logic, especially if we recognize, that it takes 1 to 3 months that CO (for example from wildfires) transmute to CO2.
