@aral @manu @Taco_lad I tend to add a CW too to make it easier to skip the image description if you're not interested.
Somebody pointed me to a browser extension recently that really helps with text-based images. No more waiting for the OCR bot https://webextension.org/listing/ocr.html
The 'OCR - Image Reader' extension is designed to simplify optical character recognition (OCR) processing within your browser. After installation, the extension adds a new button to the toolbar area of your browser. When you press this button, the current window switches to the selection mode, allowing you to select a region on the current page. The extension captures the image of the area, and the internal engine, Tesseract.js, extracts the content for you. This engine is a JavaScript-based OCR that supports over 100 languages. When performing a new job, the extension displays the progress of the OCR extraction in a popup window. If you have multiple jobs, you will get equivalent floating windows. It's worth noting that the extension fetches the appropriate language database from the server once. In future usage, the cached database is used.

Yes, that's a great idea!
I have just used this on another toot I've come across and sent it only to the addressee instead of making it public. Doesn't need to be boosted, does it?
CW - I had considered marking it so, but if only the recipient can see my reply, it is not really necessary.

I thought I might let you know 🙂
@maybit It's hard to scale #DIY servers at a cheap price, this is why people keep choceing to use the #dotcons as they "scale" ideas that are not the #geekproblem please.
Should recover after the use spike, cross fingers :)

@aral A central aim of Neoliberalism was to dismantle Antitrust https://www.ineteconomics.org/perspectives/blog/now-you-see-it-now-you-dont-antitrust-arguments-chicago-style
Let's restore antitrust enforcement

@Nuncio @aral to cite @witchescauldron :
"""
#Neoliberalism, with its emphasis on deregulation and market-driven solutions, pushes for the concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a few. This concentration eventually leads to the erosion of democratic norms and the rise of authoritarianism, as seen in the case of Twitter’s transformation.

This is as far as my understanding goes. What's your take on this?
@Apfel @maybit @Nuncio @aral @witchescauldron
Obama was to the right of Reagan. These politicians only look "liberal" when they stand next to christofascist nutbags and convince everyone that tiny gap between them (where no daylight can get through) is the "center".
@violetmadder @Apfel @maybit @Nuncio
yep, we have loony right-wing or hardcore right-wing... its a very limited choice in the #mainstreaming
@aral I was reading about that recently. For the majority of people who don't clash with the regime, most dictatorships are boring affairs and they're content to just live. People don't resist. They adapt. They get used to it. They don't want to lose their jobs, their lives, their children, etc. over rocking the boat, so they don't.
An incredibly common attitude? "They aren't coming for me so why do I care? Maybe they should shut up if they were smart."
This is true where at morality level I think it's really driven by the association of money with righteousness among neoliberals and conservatives. If something makes money it must be right.
The fascism of today is of a different flavour than that of the 1930s, equally abhorrent, but the emphasis is much more heavily on property being the ultimate rule, the ultimate barometer of righteousness. A feudal oligarchy maintained by fascist principles.
Mic drop
Neoliberals aren't the only one who have to learn to live under fascism.
Its also a question of (1.) how much you're willing to mask your views, or how secure you are in your untouchability OR (2.) how dependant your extended social network is of the fascist regime.
It's all good to say "anyone who lives under fascist regime is a fascist", but that simplification leads to forgetting people like Albert Göring (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_G%C3%B6ring) (who's ofc an extreme example, but nevertheless!)
Would the situation be the same if we were talking about mere liberalism, sans the “neo”?
I asked this question before reading the trenchant posts above that address various sides of the liberalism-versus-neoliberalism distinction, but the question still holds. Thanks, all.
