With the exception of Barack Obama, the same generation has been running the US since the early 90s and they're gunna keep going for at least another 4 years.
When Mitch McConnell says "it is time for the next generation of leadership" he's thinking about a guy in his 70s.
@PadraigOCinneide Amazing isn't it? An almost complete gerontocracy. The auld fuckers won't go home and say their fucken prayers, swim in their money pit, or whatever.
@PadraigOCinneide And most of that generation hated it when Barack was potus.
@PadraigOCinneide the way I phrased it to my friends was “Bill Clinton and Donald Trump are the same age. Except Bill Clinton became president 30 years ago.” It’s wild.
@PadraigOCinneide Can't other parties still register candidates for the election?
@PadraigOCinneide I think the bigger problem is that the same economic bracket has been running the country forever.
@PadraigOCinneide @marcoarment (Agreed and yuck. However, noting because some will make this mistake: that doesn't mean that the two same-generation options available this year are the same.)
@PadraigOCinneide and then I look at the UK, and I’m not sure there’s anything intrinsically different between old fart, young fart, if they’re all… in another dimension?
@PadraigOCinneide Obama was born in '61, same generation, opposite end.
@PadraigOCinneide Al Gore ran 24 years ago and is still younger than either of the current candidates.

@PadraigOCinneide @marcoarment
Obama is the same generation.

WWII Vets served from 1953 to 1993. That’s longer than the boomers. Even if you exclude Eisenhower, it’s still longer than the boomers have been in power

Sorry, but we GenX just don’t matter. Good luck Millenials, and please give me better insurance.

@PadraigOCinneide @marcoarment And the WWII generation ran it for 32 years before that. We get stuck in ruts.
@drdrang @PadraigOCinneide @marcoarment "generation" was a bit of a lose term which people apply it to wide ranges of ages. Put like that it wouldn't be surprising really. But in this case 3 of them are the same age and the other is only 4 years off that age.
@PadraigOCinneide @marcoarment Yeah, your rut is deeper than mine.
@PadraigOCinneide @marcoarment there is a third option here (I don’t mean electorally, that’s not cool)
@PadraigOCinneide technically, Biden is from the silent generation while the others (including Obama) are boomers.
@PadraigOCinneide
Focusing on age is a diversion from the real problems, which are neoliberalism and fascism.
See: Marjorie Taylor Green and Lauren Boebert, neither of whom are boomers.
