@JuliusGoat I have, in fact, had experiences similar to McConnell.
Be better.
Im sorry to hear that, but maybe if mitch had "been better" he would garner more sympathy.
Him having medical issues doesnt erase the damage he has done.
@chrisashtear @JuliusGoat I know this is an alien concept to a majority of people, but some of us believe that medical care is a human right and that people with disabilities are still human and have the ability to contribute as much to society as everyone else.
If you choose to make neurological disease political, you probably belong in the Republican Party.
@UncivilServant @JuliusGoat unfortunately mitch disagrees with you about medical care being a human right.
And all the contributions to society mitch has made have been negative.
@UncivilServant @JuliusGoat Look man i dont think its unreasonable to lose empathy for a person based on the evil theyve done. Would you really be weeping for a murderer?
I may be overall kind of an asshole, but I also didnt indirectly kill a bunch of people by getting roe v wade overturned.
@chrisashtear @JuliusGoat Now here's a funny thing, I haven't even mentioned anything about McConnell's politics. I feel like we can maybe keep these things separate.
Otherwise you're just saying that you only think I deserve to work for the government because of my center-left views, so you're willing to make an exception for me as one of the "good ones".
@UncivilServant @JuliusGoat i didnt mention a single thing about you, or your capacity to work in government, so maybe dont put words in my mouth.
The argument was about being more sympathetic to mitch just because he has a medical condition.
@UncivilServant @chrisashtear @JuliusGoat
Mitch McConnell has done a lot of damage to society & to the government. Hating him has nothing to do with his mental issues, and everything to do with him actively working to make sure more people die.
He’s being laughed at for having mental issues because he’s a terrible person, not because of the mental issues. People would be making fun of him anyway, because he sucks and he ruins lives.
@UncivilServant @chrisashtear @JuliusGoat
and it is 100% on mitch that he is up there, still trying to destroy people's lives, instead of say, getting help and hanging with his fam in his "hour of need"
my empathy goes to those he is ruining with his lifelong dedication to cruelty.
@rustoleumlove @chrisashtear @JuliusGoat Plenty of Republicans would call me evil for helping our state Medicaid agency cover gender-affirming care.
Few of them would be so callous as to use it as a reason to blame me when I have an episode of transient aphasia or other neuro "blips". None have suggested that I should retire.
Be better than bigots. This should not be a difficult task, and yet somehow, here we are...
@UncivilServant @chrisashtear @JuliusGoat
i am better than bigots, bc i am not bigoted.
but you can judge me all you want, have a superiority complex or whatever.
i'm not trying to be a paragon of ideals! i live in the real world, where people like mitch mcconnell can die screaming and i'll laugh about it, it's not difficult at all... to tell people to FUCK OFF
@rustoleumlove @UncivilServant @JuliusGoat i think what it comes down to is, they value civility more than actions. At least thats my guess.
Civility is nice and all, but theres no good to be found in being civil with a party that wont compromise, tries to overthrow the government, and wants minority groups dead or subservient.
@UncivilServant @chrisashtear @JuliusGoat
It is ALSO possible to have empathy with a human being AND see the distinct irony in the situation.
Without belonging to the if-the-world-was-flat-we-have-fallen-off-the-right-side-ledge party.
@chrisashtear @JuliusGoat @UncivilServant nobody is saying he should be deprived of medical care. nor are they mocking his disorder. they’re saying he’s evil and doesn’t deserve sympathy, and he doesn’t.
identifying with a mass murderer because he shares your disorder is not necessary.
@chrisashtear @UncivilServant @JuliusGoat
Exactly 💯%
@Ponygirl @penpencilbrush @JuliusGoat I regret that I am unwilling to hurt the "right" people. It is obviously a character flaw and a minority view in both parties, it seems.
I'm not surprised, really. We all had it beaten into us in high school that some people need to be hurt and some people have earned the right to hurt others.
Unfortunately, I can't fix a societal case of Stockholm Syndrome.
Wow, so you denied medical care to millions, before needing it yourself?
@jztusk @JuliusGoat I have literally had a seizure at my desk while working to bring medical care to the elderly, poor, and disabled.
I have experienced transient aphasia as well, it is terrifying, and when I say there are "no words" I mean that literally.
I also know that many of the people I help may be people I wouldn't get along with. There are bad people in any group, but I don't demand that we only help saints and punish sinners.
Medical care is a human right. Even for people you hate
I admire professionalism. I am glad that there are people like you who will provide care for anyone, even someone as horrible as, say, a rapist. I sincerely raise my hat to you, and give you thanks.
But I think that professionals should understand that the scope of their expertise has limits. Despising Mitch McConnell is a social good, so while he should get medical care, we shouldn't stop despising him.
@UncivilServant @JuliusGoat So have I. His repeated evil choices made it worse.
Fuck him.
"If only one man dies of hunger, that is a tragedy. If millions die, that’s only statistics" -- Stalin, Jan 20, 1947
add: I find your appeal morally repugnant.
read better
@JuliusGoat Perhaps I could have phrased that better. I have some idea of what Mr. McConnell might be experiencing right now.
And I have some idea how I might feel if someone felt this was the best time to pass judgement.
And I have some idea how much respect I would have for such a person.
And I remember hearing people say that they want leaders who will "hurt the right people", and I think about how much respect I have for such a person.
That was my reaction to a familiar situation.
4. Given the ascendancy of the fascist wing of the Republican party, and the strength of the Republican party in his state, the result of a McConnell resignation or death or primary defeat could be appointment or election of someone even worse than he is. Sure, the replacement wouldn't have any seniority, and almost certainly wouldn't be anywhere close to McConnell as a legislative tactician. But he'd still likely be a vote for fascism in a safe seat.
5. Given the likelihood that any McConnell replacement would be worse, unless fascism is resoundingly defeated next election, I'm going to wish him just enough health to cling to his Senate seat for a little longer.

American life expectancy dropped 5 years during Trump's presidency alone.
To keep tax cuts for the rich, McConnell let 1.17 million Americans die of covid.
