Author, actor, and activist Maulik Pancholy was scheduled to speak at an anti-bullying assembly at Mountain View Middle School in Pennsylvania. He learned through social media that he had been disinvited after the school board unanimously voted – citing his “lifestyle” and “empathy.” After outrage, a petition, a five-hour meeting packed with community members, and an appearance on the Velshi Banned Book Club, Pancholy and his novel, ‘The Best At It’ was invited back to speak.

A growing coalition of Democratic Attorneys General have vowed to protect their citizens from a second Trump term. Among them, Connecticut AG William Tong and Arizona AG Kris Mayes. At least half a dozen states are committing to protecting reproductive freedom, environmental regulations, immigrant rights, and the LGBTQ+ community. Legal experts call the scale of mobilization unprecedented, and their actions could become a crucial check on Trump's authoritarian ambitions. “We won’t be intimidated,” says Mayes. “We built a firewall in Trump 1.0, and that wall has never come down,” adds Tong. “Democratic AGs are going on offense.”
