When I look at the video of a clearly struggling Mitch McConnell, I think about how scary and difficult that must be, and how hard McConnell has worked throughout his life to ensure that the end of people's lives are as difficult and scary a struggle as they can possibly be made.

@JuliusGoat I have, in fact, had experiences similar to McConnell.

Be better.

@JuliusGoat Perhaps I could have phrased that better. I have some idea of what Mr. McConnell might be experiencing right now.

And I have some idea how I might feel if someone felt this was the best time to pass judgement.

And I have some idea how much respect I would have for such a person.

And I remember hearing people say that they want leaders who will "hurt the right people", and I think about how much respect I have for such a person.

That was my reaction to a familiar situation.

@UncivilServant As for those who hurt the “right people” I am reminded that Mitch McConnell has spent his life hurting the “right people” at scale and with horrifying efficiency, and so I think it appropriate to think of him as the kind of person who did such things, and to have deep empathy in this time for his victims, whose response to the end of this life dedicated to their suffering is theirs to have.
@UncivilServant to have empathy for those going through exactly what McConnell is going through, I feel it important to remember that few people have done more in our lifetimes to increase that suffering than Mitch McConnell. My judgment of him started long before his illness, but on behalf of his victims I won’t suspend it.
