What is your favourite #fdroid app? Would be interested if I can discover a few new cool apps, I missed until now. Thank you already for sharing! @fdroid

@kirschner #AntennaPod for Podcasts, #Fedilab for Mastodon and Fediverse, #Transistor for my daily #Dlf radio needs, #Aegis for #2FA, the recent version of #AnkiDroid for learning via flash cards, #SimpleGalleryPro for media management. #Auxio as a simple yet nice looking audio player. #OrganicMaps as an simple alternative to the mighty #OsmAnd. #NewPipe for my video streaming needs (even though #LibreTube is a very fine alternative when it exclusively comes to #YouTube), #Quillpad for taking notes, #KeePassDX as password manager. #DAVx5 to get stuff synchronized, #FairEmail as email client. #Feeder for my RSS feed needs. And finally the still new #FDroidBasic client allowing automatic updates of installed apps.

Recently tried out #SimpleX messenger and like it quite a bit so far. @fdroid

@cryptgoat
Thank you for the great list. Did not yet try out Aegis and Auxio. And one question in case you use it: Is the #nextcloud sync for quillpad working reliable?
@fdroid
@kirschner @fdroid Sorry for getting back to you so late, haven't been trying the Nextcloud-Sync yet but will do.
@kirschner Appears to be working fine, haven't tried it too much yet though and the sync is marked as experimental.
@kirschner @fdroid Unciv. There are other apps of course, but that one is my most favorite.
@rvansleen
Have not seen that before. Looks nice (also interesting to read the FAQs there)!
@fdroid
KeePassDX, NewPipe, ViMusic, Aegis, OpenKeychain, mpv, AntennaPod, TrailSense, SuperImage, Librera Reader, Jerboa, Stealth
@kumarettan
Thanks. Did not know about SuperImage and it sounds interesting. (Do you use Jerboa and Stealth simultaneously?)

@kirschner
Use #transportr most days to find public transport in Denmark.

It can connect to other databases, so might work in your area?
@fdroid

@notsoloud
Yes, works here. I was already a alpha tester in the early ages of the app. @grote has done great work there!!
@fdroid

@kirschner
For offline non-tracking maps:
@organicmaps or #osmand

@fdroid

@notsoloud @kirschner @organicmaps @fdroid The problem I've had with both these apps is I've never figured out how to get directions to an individual address instead of a road. Is that just a limitation of the OSM dataset?
@gourdcaptain @notsoloud @kirschner @fdroid looks like your address are not added yet to OpenStreetMap.org database. We have plans to support some external address sources. With your donations and support that happens sooner ;-)

@organicmaps
Big thank you for your work!!

@organicmaps @gourdcaptain @notsoloud @kirschner I also have very good experiences with #OrganicMaps as a map app. I recently learned by chance that it is also very easy to edit and add to #OpenStreetMap data: "Simply press on it, pull up & edit. The first time you do this, you will be informed that you need an OSM account (including a link to register). Once logged in, entries can be edited very easily. (...) New places can also be added by long pressing on the location."

@gourdcaptain
Works great for me in Denmark, but that's a country with LOTS of free public geodata.
@kirschner @organicmaps @fdroid

@gourdcaptain

It all depends on which volunteers have had the time an patience to do it in your area.
For example, in the UK, both Nottingham and Birmingham have organised groups that walk around mapping things and it's really detailed.

In Derby where I live, not so much.
I and others are adding things where we go, but it takes time and effort.

@kirschner
#Satstat will show how well your GPS works, and all the sensors in your phone. Like, I used it to check magnetic fields when fixing some electronics
@fdroid
@notsoloud
Interesting to hear about that use of Satstat. Thanks.
@fdroid
Also, Phyphox for access to various sensor data in graph form.

@kirschner
#Radiodroid gives you easy access to tons of netradios worldwide.

My Expenses, NewPipe, Open Note Scanner, Catima, ConnectBot, Earmouse, FairEmail, KeePassDX, SicMu Player, Street Complete, Termux, VLC, Wikipedia and those are just my favourites
@fdroid
@gippy
Thanks. Did not know about Open Note Scannwr, for what are you using it?
@fdroid
@kirschner
To use the smartphone's camera as a scanner, with the convenience of having pictures converted into 1bit depth (B/W with no grey scale), lightening them a lot.
@fdroid
Ciao Gabriele! Thank you for this suggestion, the only problem is that this app, I’ve seen, that has no longer been updated. Does it still work fine?
Ever hear of KiwiX? You can use it to browse Wikipedia articles without data. It also works with some other sites as well

@kirschner @fdroid KeepassDX (offline password manager compatible with KeepassXC on desktop), Syncthing (peer to peer folder synchronization), NewPipe (unofficial YouTube app), Xtra (unofficial Twitch app), Breezy Weather (weather app), Moshidon (Mastodon client with a lot of unique features), VLC Media Player.

Some of these are from IzzyOnFDroid, I can't remember which.

@gourdcaptain
It should be Breezy, and Moshidon at least I did not find them right now in the official @fdroid repos.
@fdroid
@kirschner @fdroid Finding IzzyOnF-Droid, an unofficial repo of more open source apps for F-Droid, shot my use of the F-Droid app through the roof, tbh.
IzzyOnDroid F-Droid Repository

Applications in this repository are official binaries built by the original application developers, taken from their resp. repositories (mostly Github, GitLab, Codeberg), with additional screening applied. Updates for the apps are usually fetched daily, and you can expect daily index updates.

@A10 Thanks! KDEconnect can be really powerful.
Some useful features I use, clipboard sharing. File sharing, media controls, remote input, PC shortcuts sleep, brightness Ctrl.
@kirschner AdAway, Binary Eye, ESBDirect (for heinekingmedia DSB), RedReader, Scrambled Exif, OpenKeychain and Voice.
@tnbp Thanks. Which "Voice" do you mean?

@tnbp Ah, that one. (Also using it, but was not sure as there are other apps including Voice in #Fdroid as well).
@kirschner Speaking of Voice, I keep trying Dicio, but it never does what I want *in German*. English works well, though.
@kirschner @fdroid
- Amethyst, a client for the free/open #Nostr protocol
- @delta, a chat app using #email with support for #Autocrypt standard
- @AntennaPod podcast player
- Voice, for playing #DRM-free audiobooks
- KreptEY, keyboard for #e2ee communication using any messenger
- Rethink: DNS + Firewall
- Fast Shopping, old but beautiful gold.

@fdroid

Not an everyday favorite but a potential life-saver: EtchDroid for creating bootable Linux USB drives. Allowed me to fix a laptop which wasn't booting in the middle of a holiday.

@hexaquo @fdroid Thank you. That might indeed save me some time in future.
Obtainium. For all those cool apps you find on GitHub, GitLab, FDroid, Izzy, APKPure, and more. In some cases you can add your own links and it’ll try to scrape them for APKs for app updates

@Jailbrick3d This is not (yet?) available in #Fdroid is it?
You can get it if you’ve enabled the IzzyOnDroid repo

Conversations (xmpp client)

@erd @fdroid Classic, big thanks to @daniel for his great work on #conversations 👏
Newpipe, Libretube, Vimusic, dankchat, smart autoclicker, diskusage, notification dictionary, pixeldroid, superimage, tachiyomi, twire.
@Blackdoomax Thanks for notification dictionary, did not know about that.
You’re welcome :)

@kirschner @fdroid for me, probably the most useful (after maps which has already been covered) is mail. I would recommend https://k9mail.app/.

I use it for work daily and it gets updated regularly.
