Comment on your video about #FDroid

1. You don't need to install the F-Droid app targetting older Androids. You can directly install the #FDroidBasic apk, but you need to scroll around and ignore warnings
2. Add the #IzzyOnDroid repo to F-Droid. It is huge and has no weird rules.

I just found out recently that F-Droid has a single and very outdated #MagicWormhole app, while @IzzyOnDroid has 3!

Must have.

I Use F-Droid and Hate It.

Dear @fdroidorg,
Is there a place where the F-Droid Basic client features are listed and/or a list of the features present in the F-Droid client and absent from the F-Droid Basic one ?
All links seem to point to the general F-Droid documentation/code repository where I couln't find a precise list.
Thanks. ☺️

I'm trying this "Basic" version out since I don't think I've ever used any of the removed features.

OMFG F-Droid Alpha has a totally new interface.

Going to take time getting used to it. #fdroid #fdroidbasic

Edit: auto-update was re-enabled and I can't modify how frequently updates are checked

Edit 2: Blog link

I'm on my Android. And I can't download any apps on my F-Droid client which is F-Droid Basic. I remember trying to update some app yesterday and I couldn't do that either. So, I just now installed F-Droid and it works. Why is F-Droid Basic having this problem and how to fix it? Any ideas or suggestions?

Just found out that my #Obtainium config could be optimised for automatic updates!

Unlike on Linux and Windows, where getting apps from Repos is the best way to go, on #Android it is very common for developers to publish builds themselves.

Most are on #Github, but luckily not everything, quite some are on #Gitlab.com, #Codeberg or selfhosted git forges.

This is preferred, as the Android package manager already stores public signing keys (even across profiles), so a repository is not needed to guarantee safe updates.

There is #TOFU though; trust on first use. You need to verify somehow, that the app you first install is from a valid source.

This is also the reason, why app changes like #Syncthing or #Signal require uninstalling and reinstalling, as another key is used.

Obtainium allows to get often far quicker updates, more apps, and no reliance on re-distributors.

You will contact Github and Gitlab a lot though, so getting an API key (best with a separate account) is needed for it to work reasonably if you have over a handful of apps.

The F-Droid repo and compatible 3rd party repos are also supported, but #FDroidBasic is better as it is more efficient, better for the repo owners and you.

Uhm, I can no longer fetch updates via #FDroidBasic, getting this error (?) popup upon triggering a repo update: "F-Droid: not nullable: icon".

Tried deleting the app cache, it is still not working. Any idea what's going on here @fdroidorg? Using #Android 16, #GrapheneOS.

I've been daily driving #FDroidBasic for a couple of months now and I really like it. It's a flavor of the official #FDroid app where the ever-broken nearby (aka app swap) feature is removed. It's the first non-frustrating official F-Droid experience for me in years.

Great work @grote and many thanks to @calyxos for funding this.

Now I switched completely from f-droid to f-droid basic app.

Main reason is the better version of gadgets bridge. With this version it is allowed to run in background and so I can use my mi band again for notifications and alarms.

Another: All other apps can be maintained by the basic version too. So why should I have installed two f-droid store apps?
