She makes a great few points, no? So I have to ask: What the hell is wrong with half the voters?
@georgetakei
Seems like, at their core, most of them hate; whether it's someone's race, religion, orientation, place of origin, or simply themselves and their lot in life.
@georgetakei Please, George, let’s not expand their numbers any more than they legitimately already claim. For fear of sounding pedantic, the most authoritative and plausibly accurate figure I’ve seen puts “them” at 38%, so the question should be: “WTH is wrong with 38% of this country’s voters?”
@georgetakei This split has been extant since G.W. Bush. No one party has won more than 53% of the vote since 2000...

@georgetakei with respect, as long as we keep asking these questions in the limited and highly contextual space of “political decisions”, we aren’t going to get anywhere except much worse off.

They like him bc he is an authoritarian bigot, and they are scared.

@georgetakei Not to mention that Trump was involved in over 4,000 law suits before he ever entered politics. He’s not a nice man!

@georgetakei this is explained by group psychology. Politics over the last decades in your country has been polarized by false journalism and social networks. Dems and Republicans in the Senate and Congress have given up or working together on the common interests of The People. So instead of a country you now have two tribes where no one believes on even one word coming from the other side. But I guess you now all this.
@georgetakei I've seen people on the side of the Republicans shrug off the Capitol riots as just some foolish protest that may have gone a bit over the rails but certainly wasn't an attempt to prevent the ratification of the election results, so I guess people believe in what they want to believe.
@georgetakei Fear of equality, Fear of reality. Loss of trustworthy authorities to listen to.
Disinformation on BOTH sides. Assumption that SOMEONE is MORE EQUAL than others without self awareness of what that means.

@georgetakei They want you to think it's half the voters. It's not. It was 45% in 2020, and it's falling. They know it. That's why they're attacking democracy.

The "half of all voters" thing just legitimizes them.

@DanaBlankenhorn @georgetakei
Exactly. It’s not half:

Trump received more than 74 million votes while Biden received more than 81 million - so 48% :)

I think it better to ask, why did 74 million vote for Trump? Are they all incapable of critical thinking?

@JoeStewart

This is exactly what I have been asking myself since 2016. I think it might be tunnel vision, selective thinking that support personal interests rather than the democracy of a society.

@DanaBlankenhorn @georgetakei while unfortunate that a good percentage of people don’t vote, it’s also relevant in that it’s definitely not half of Americans.
@tvnred @georgetakei It's not even half of those who bother to vote.
@georgetakei party over country....and education. Dumbest country in the world, not even close.
@georgetakei that the Republican Party still even exists at this point is more of a condemnation of the Democratic Party than it is of the Republican Party. The GOP attempted a coup, openly excuses and supports insurrection, and does absolutely nothing for anyone who isn’t a straight, white male… and yet, they hold half the seats in government. Half the voters in the country don’t see any better alternative than that? Unbelievable.
@georgetakei They live in an alternate reality.
@georgetakei Half of the GOP think it's all made up/witch hunt stuff. The other half don't actually care, because they believe he did those things in service of a higher purpose and therefore there's no "real" crime. They don't see any hypocrisy, because they believe the double standard they hold is fine: their people are the only real and true Americans, and therefore they have the right to do what they will, but "lesser" people should be strictly controlled.
@georgetakei It goes back to when Ronald Reagan convinced voters that the government was the problem, not the solution. If you are against the government you are probably against complex laws that only apply to moneyed elites and white collar crime, and even more so if the government is trying to enforce these weird laws against your guy. Trump thinks he could shoot someone and they'd still support him. That is a bit different. I think in that case he would lose some, but not all of his base.

@georgetakei

The Aggrieved White Victimhood-Industrial Complex is alive and well.

@georgetakei I have been asking in a country the size of USA with 350 million people these are the only people you can find suitable to be candidates? Like us in the UK your system is broken.
@georgetakei I think enough people really have gone so far off the beam that these qualities really are positives to them.
@georgetakei Propaganda is what's wrong. They've become immune to reason because they perceive anything that challenges their tribe as made up, without actually considering it.
@georgetakei “MAGA” Republicans are nowhere near half of voters, they’re more like one sixth. They have leverage over the party because they can dominate primaries, and the party has leverage over the nation because of first-past-the-post and gerrymandering and voter suppression. The credible threats of violence give them a little more, and the people who don’t vote because it seems pointless give them a little more.
@georgetakei in the long run we have to fix our system, in the short run we have to DROP the GOP from every elected office
@ShadSterling @georgetakei If only winning primaries didn't guarantee 99% of GOP loyalists would vote red in the actual elections. If only these so called non-fascists didn't all vote fash in the end.
@georgetakei Right-wing bad-faith actors have taken Proverbs 3:5-6 and twisted it to recruit churchgoers and make more right-wing bad-faith actors. It's the church version of “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command." Basically if it's Republican, it's church approved, and if it isn't, everyone involved with it is going to hell and you must hate them. How handy that their version of God hates all the same people they do.
@georgetakei they are racist and/or brain washed so hard that the material has frayed and thinned out
@georgetakei Well, a third of the voters, gerrymandered up to half.
@georgetakei it's not that hard to understand. #uspol
@georgetakei it’s not half the eligible voters, it’s half the people who actually vote. The couch keeps winning elections. Still, the fact that there are as many people as there are, who are willing to buy into this psychosis, is really worrying.

@georgetakei

It's because we have no moral compass or shame in this country.

@georgetakei

George, damned if I know... but I always try my best. I tried my best on Reddit until alt-right Brigade-ing and backroom Mod bribes got me banned.

I tried my best on Twitter until I was banned for arguing with Geraldo Rivera that Rump should never be pardoned.

I'll try my best Here ( well, for as long as I'll last ).

Best Wishes...!

😎

@georgetakei he makes them feel like they're not losers by telling them everything they feel and believe is correct.
@georgetakei IKR. IT’S HARD TO DIGEST.
@georgetakei they are fed propaganda every day and they have never learned critical thinking and questioning believes and checking arguments.
@georgetakei Their minds have been poisoned by the pastors and grifters that have served as replacements for the teachers and mentors they needed.
@georgetakei it’s not “half the voters.” Don’t buy into that even-handed media narrative. It’s 20-30%, which is still frightening, but exactly why the fascist Right seeks to undermine democratic institutions - they know they can’t win a fair fight.
@georgetakei Remember when Howard Dean was eliminated because… he yelled?
@georgetakei
Of the 1.13 million dead from Covid, how many of those occurred in the Biden Administration?
Biden is worse than Trump on Covid.
@georgetakei
I find it ALL baffling.
🤔 ☠️
@georgetakei I kinda think it's a combination of factors: 1) The end of the Fairness Doctrine allowed the rise of the rabid conservative echo chamber, 2) There is at least some truth to the idea that the democratic party is cozying up to moneyed interests, 3) There's probably some racism/homophobia/transphobia/sexism involved.
