This is why we're seeing dumb AI everywhere, and self owns like MS's Recall

Recouping revenue from massively expensive AI development is urgent, market fit's unclear, so corps are shoving "AI" into everything to please investors/hope for fit/keep the bubble inflated

IMO this also explains the lockstep turn to military contracting (OAI, et al). A good way to sell tech that "doesn't actually work" via lucrative contracts whose efficacy won't be assessed w trad. metrics.

The AI bubble is reaching a tipping point. As we continue to follow the GPUs, navigating what comes next will be essential.

Elon Musk took to X yesterday (where else) to tell the world exactly how he feels about Apple partnering with OpenAI, raising concerns over security and data privacy and threatening to ban Apple devices from his companies as a result.

However, according to Tom's Guide, everything he mentioned — and the many similar comments that appeared on social media after the keynote — shows a huge misunderstanding about the deal with ChatGPT and how Apple Intelligence will actually work. Here's why.

The problem with good news in the real world is that it's *messy*. Neat endings are for novels, not the real world, and that goes double for the climate emergency. But even though good climate news is complex and nuanced, that doesn't mean it shouldn't buoy our spirits and fill our hearts with hope.

@rbreich the people who claim the "deep state" is behind all their legal and political woes are merely projecting. If they were in charge they would want exactly such a deep state, just working for them.
Remember: Trump's jury was made up of ordinary citizens — selected with input from Trump's own lawyers. The jurors were not politicians or members of the "Deep State." They were Americans who did their civic duty.

Maine Sen. Susan Collins isn't just the key Republican enabler of Trump's extremist Supreme Court appointments -- a pretend-centrist who is just as right-wing as the rest of the Republican Party.

She's a Trump flunky in just about every way at this point, as her flagrant lie about the NY prosecutor shows. https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/collins-needs-to-retract-and-apologize-for-her-falsehood?utm_source=brevo&utm_campaign=Backchannel%20NEW%20TEMPLATE%20329&utm_medium=email
