@floflow there’s just so much to unpack. The pedestrian-hostile design up top is obviously an abomination, and there is no excuse for that to exist. But the lone parked car suggests peak COVID, which is clearly not the situation at the sidewalk cafe.
And the notion that rich tourists with plenty of leisure time are somehow morally superior to working stiffs who just want a cup of coffee on their way to work is hard to scroll past.
(side note: I guess we’ve located the chip on my shoulder 🤷)
This drives me batty. I know some people have health risks, some have young kids, some have social anxiety (I have agoraphobic family members). But that can't be everybody. 90% of the time, I park my car, walk in, and walk out with my order faster than the people in drive through even if I didn't order ahead.
If you mean that my coffee shop should be in walking distance and a car-based economy is an ecological disaster, I know. My rant was tangential - and I can't afford to move someplace where I wouldn't need a car.
I adore French cafes.
Talking with people over food enlivens the soul.
@fuck_cars_bot The image description on this sucks, here's my attempt at better one:
The image shows two places:
The upper one is an arial view of a starbucks surrounded by parking space, a few patches of lawn and roads. Over 30 cars are forming a line to the drive-in, blocking a lane on the road.
The lower one shows a street corner restaurant in what looks like a pedestrian zone. About 30 people are sitting around tables outside under parasols.
@fuck_cars_bot at least the coffee is bad in both places
