I like the sentiment, but let’s not pretend half the people in the bottom photo didn’t fly across an ocean to hang out on the Left Bank (full disclosure: I’ve had coffee in that very spot). Walkability should be about everyday life, not just holidays.
@gio Yep, lots of bullshit here in France as well regarding how public transportations, traffic, etc, are handled. We have a higher population density, so public transportation for everyone should be a priority.

@floflow there’s just so much to unpack. The pedestrian-hostile design up top is obviously an abomination, and there is no excuse for that to exist. But the lone parked car suggests peak COVID, which is clearly not the situation at the sidewalk cafe.

And the notion that rich tourists with plenty of leisure time are somehow morally superior to working stiffs who just want a cup of coffee on their way to work is hard to scroll past.

(side note: I guess we’ve located the chip on my shoulder 🤷)
