Every Year is Someone's Year of Linux Desktop

I was in the midst of 2-year long Linux Experiment when my first feature film was green-lit. How did I make my film using (mostly) FOSS tech?

It's FOSS News
@itsfoss Rich, mostly enjoyable, often impressive, not infrequently inspiring, always educational, almost daily better and with anticipation for continued progress (and for #linuxmobile too!). ☺️ I wish I could pass on the experience, the learning and the good feeling to my #macos and #windows friends. But like most things in life, #linuxdesktop is a journey you have to want to take.
@itsfoss All our PCs run #GnuLinux but objectively the #yearofthelinuxdesktop can only be once you can step into a store and buy a laptop with #Linux preinstalled at an affordable or similar price to #Windows laptops.

@itsfoss We should have #LUGs or other clubs in every country to promote and drive #LinuxAdoption and #opensource / #foss #freesoftware especially in #schools where they may need help in managing computer labs...

Educate them and expose them to foss linux #privacy while they're still young...

@itsfoss Amazing read! Thanks for sharing! 🙌 #bitwig was my #resolve as I made the transition from decades of #macos based #musicproduction to #linuxaudio. Back then I wrote an article about the journey. Not as elaborate as yours though, but still... https://amadeuspaulussen.com/blog/2020/journey-to-linux
@amadeus @itsfoss since I became a #bitwig user in the early pre-release days, I have tried twice to switch from mac OS to #Ubuntu. But I eventually relapsed both times since it felt I was spending more time troubleshooting than making music. But being forced to ditch 1000€ worth of perfectly working hardware (#MOTU 828 mk2, #UAD appolo quad...) because of "dropped #Firewire support" makes me absolutely mad. I'd love to get some tips from someone who went through this process successfully.

@Matjoe @itsfoss I feel like #linuxaudio has made a lot of progress over the last couple of years. Not only in terms of #plugins available natively (see e.g. https://linuxdaw.org/) but in particular because of #pipewire. If you want to give it another try I'd be there to help (if I can). 🫣️🙂️ PD: I sold my arsenal on UA interface and accelerators and went on to an #rme #fireface #usb #classcompliant interface with an AD extension unit and never looked back. 🤓️

@Matjoe @itsfoss BTW: I built my studio #computer around a ProArt X570-Creator WiFi #mainboard by #asus which is one of the rare #amd boards with #thunderbolt support (just in case). 😜️ https://amadeuspaulussen.com/info/gear

@amadeus @itsfoss thanks for the #protip !! I use two #Thunderboltdisplay in serie on which my #UADaplollo is plugged. #firewire support through #thunderbolt would be the dream.
@Matjoe @itsfoss Ah, I see! Very convenient with #macos but not sure how #linux would deal with such a setup.
@Matjoe @amadeus @itsfoss I’m running a Behringer at the moment. Works very well. I have my eyes on an RME interface though. Gotta save up. Because of work I’ve got Avid hardware and a Mac (MTRX Studio and a Carbon); but for my personal efforts it’s all about building a rad live setup in Linux.
@photex @Matjoe @itsfoss Amazing! 🙌 Maybe you can find an RME interface secondhand for cheap?
