@flargh I use Alfred to open most apps, either through search or a dedicated hotkey

@flargh
Depends on the app.

If it's something I use frequently, it's probably in my dock so I launch it from there. For most other apps, I usually use Spotlight.

The blind spot is apps that are seldom used AND whose names I can't remember. I have folders with aliases to some of those grouped by function (e.g. photo, video utilities, work, etc.)

@flargh when I used my Mac more I’d go to the dock. Anything not there was a spotlight search.
@flargh I use the four finger pinch gesture to open the Launchpad. Is that what it’s called?
@flargh I have been using #Alfred for many years. I also have many Alfred workflows to open specific webpages etc..
@flargh I have the Apps folder in the Dock and launch them from there.
@flargh What isn't on the dock (or sometimes even if it is on the dock) is an Alfred launch for me.

@flargh I keep regularly used stuff in Dock, sometimes Spotlight, but more often I have iTerm focused already, so type:

% open -a something

if the name's short enough.
#macos

@flargh Similar to launching via Spotlight, but I use Alfred.
@flargh all three, depending on context and convenience
@flargh Alfred instead of spotlight
@flargh I have global shortcuts setup for my common apps based on the "Meh" key in a programmable keyboard (one key for shift-ctrl-alt), then use Spotlight or Dock for anything else that comes up, depending on whether my hand is on trackpad or keyboard.
@flargh most frequently used apps go in the dock. For the rest, Spotlight.

@flargh LaunchBar 95%, Keyboard Maestro 4%, Launchpad 1%

(Also trying out Alfred, but it’s not yet become a habit)

@flargh I kinda use all of these methods
@flargh All off the above plus Finder and Launchpad. I’m a mess.
@flargh Alfred all day err day.
@flargh I use Alfredo. I can open apps, but also do copy & paste, search, and other tasks.
@flargh spotlight OR BetterTouchTool custom key commands.
@flargh Launchbar most of the time

@flargh If the app’s in my dock, I launch it from the dock, of course. Otherwise, Spotlight.

I only go into the folder if I cannot remember the name! 🙄

@flargh Dock if it’s there, Spotlight if I remember the name, otherwise Launchpad
@flargh Split: For most common apps I have a keyboard shortcut set via Keyboard Maestro (in years past, I used Quickeys); for everything else, Launchbar.
@flargh Missed the vote, but I use QuickSilver - an oldie but a goodie-ish solution.
@flargh Alfred, then launchpad if i want to see apps grouped by function, and then the apps folder for special cases. But I can go months without using anything but Alfred.

@flargh

Launchpad!!

Few Mac users explore this sort of thing.. but..

In Trackpad prefs, select Thumb-3-fingers for Launchpad. (4-finger grab works too. A 'soft grasp')

OK, now 4-finger grab to open Launchpad. Click-Hold an icon. They all wobble. Drag the ones you don't want to right to create a new 'page' and organise to suit.

Now 4-finger grab and if you can't see an app you want, type the first 1 or 2 letters of it's name.

Easily the best/fastest.

@flargh

NB, you can organise as many separate Launchpad windows as you want. The last one viewed stays in place until you change it. So... you can set up different Launchpad windows for different work/play envirnoments.
