Open it from the Dock
Use Spotlight

Depends on the app.
If it's something I use frequently, it's probably in my dock so I launch it from there. For most other apps, I usually use Spotlight.
The blind spot is apps that are seldom used AND whose names I can't remember. I have folders with aliases to some of those grouped by function (e.g. photo, video utilities, work, etc.)
